Seton Hall - 2nd Game

@NYPost_Brazille: "I've never had a team with the number of injuries and setbacks and issues [we've had]" -- Steve Lavin #sjubb

It's almost as if he didn't coach before SJU, with all the self-described best/worst/extreme scenarios he's encountered here on a near weekly basis

And the calves and shoulder are old injuries from earlier in the year. I think it's been mentioned that he's been playing hurt since the first Providence game. Not enough to miss games but enough to affect performance. Chris too, though I don't recall when we first started hearing about his ankles.

Imo, other than hitting the occasional corner short jump shot, Obekpa has become less effective each game. I think we are better with Amar on the floor

Yes, Obekpa's injury is addition by subtraction. Amar with a smattering of Balamou and Jones at the center position is a recipe for success.

Ya, we were unstoppable with him in the lineup

Obekpa is a difference maker on defense when healthy. Every coach we play says it. When he is hobbled, that part of his game goes away.

When one actually watches the game without an agenda, it is easy to see when Harrison has been really banged up, and when he hasn't been. He started the year fine, then was hurt. At home against Depaul and in the first half against Xavier he looked much better. Then he got hurt again, and looked like a shell of himself in the second half of the Xavier game.

@NYPost_Brazille: D'Angelo Harrison admitted calves are an issue but made it seem like he'll play. #sjubb

Did Harrison get hurt in the Georgetown game or in practice? He had 33 and 18 the 2 games before
he got hurt at the end of the first half at Xu. His first half numbers were much better than his 2nd half. Sorry didn't realize this question was answered.

Not liking all the excuses from Lavin. Seems like he's preparing the excuses now in case he doesn't make the tournament

Exactly what I was thinking!!!! It's like everything is a huge exaggeration with this guy

Can someone tell me how early they start letting people in prior to the game starting?

Here is my bold strategy: Delgado started the season as an aggressive defender that had a tendency to foul out. Although, I have no idea what Willard tells Delgado, I believe that he has been coached to not foul.

He has went from one of the better defenders on SHU to one of the weaker ones. I would start and post up AA and watch him go for double digits! SHU doesn't double team.

evry team can make excuses for injuries and suspensions, illnesses, etc. Nobody, especially Johnnie fans want to hear about excuses from a team full of seniors. We've heard them for years. Sorry Lav, I support you, but don't go down that road

Agree Cappy

Pillow fight game.. If injuries and sickness are true bet the house on the hall for a long awaited victory. Angry redfaced redmen fans angered after this one. Ncaa hopes vanishes.

If Whitehead played last game we probably win. He's a chemistry killer.
The only guard that scares me on SH is Gibbs. He kills us...and he's not playing.

The only other player on the roster that scares me is Delgado, but I think Dom will come out with a chip on his shoulder and we have a new weapon to keep him off the glass: Alibegovic. He inexplicably didn't play at all in the first match up.

Can you Marillac or.......offer me a review on Alibegovic - I like the little I've seen/heard but need to be informed as to what he's done and the prognosis for what's he's capable of during the balance of this season.
Thanks!

First and foremost, he's a freshman big man and they hardly can be counted on for much. To add to the troubles there, Amar has to also adjust the the American game simultaneously.

He's extremely physical...huge kid that can play both PF and some C. He has a very nice stroke from midrange and deep, although he needs more touches so he doesn't feel obligated to shoot every time he's open. Good footwork and very efficient with his movements getting into his shot or getting to the hoop or perimeter after setting a screen...defense is below average at this point and quickness will have to be worked on. 10-12 minutes a game with 5 points, 3-5 boards, and limited fouls would be enormous for this team down the stretch.

He can body Delgado...no doubt in my mind. He pins guys and boxes out better than anyone on the roster. He was bullying Reynolds for a stretch in the Xavier game.

Amar has shown tremendous growth in terms of understanding where to be on the floor. Early on, he was totally lost on the court. He is showing great understanding of where to be on the floor. He is probably the best on the team (already) at the pick and roll.

The only problems I see are: (1) On defense, when he switches on a pick, he doesn't look to switch back on his man. We end up with him on the perimeter and a guard on a big down low; and (2) On offense, he missed a couple of passes from Branch in the Georgetown game because he stopped going toward the basket when Branch was driving. He needs to keep going to the basket and look for the pass.

injuries didn't stop us from blowing the beginning of big east play

I still don't understand why Amar wasn't given more playing time prior to conference play.

@NYPost_Brazille: Think Injuries haven't been quite as bad as Lavin described, but how many Big East games has D'Angelo Harrison actually been healthy? #sjubb

That is so weak Steve

You think possibly the reporter asks questions about injuries, then posts only the answer---making it seem like an unsolicited "excuse." Or do you think Lavin called Braziller up and offered the excuse.

I think Lavin has been pulling the "we're the youngest team in the conference" or "we suffered a lot of injuries" card for 4 years now. Time for him to put up or get out of town.
