Seton Hall - 2nd Game

Just watched the game again, I know I'm stating the obvious but Dom is a beast, it's like there is 2 of him out there . He is playing himself onto a Nba roster next season. And I see people killing Greene all the time, and I know he over dribbles sometimes but he hits big shots and this team will miss him next season. I hope they can grab a few more wins and get an at large bid the seniors deserve it.

I haven't read your always funny recap yet, but even you have to be happy after this win? Right?

I know a lot of you were at the game, but for those at home, did it bother you that the announcers were talking while the band was playing the national anthem? I found it a little strange.

I was at the game but I watched the game on DVR. It was definitely odd and the announcers seemed uncomfortable. The national anthem is usually done before the broadcast starts. Yesterday, it wasn't and it seemed as if no one knew how to handle it.

Btw, why does our band play it so slowly. Their rendition sounds dead and uninspirational.

Yes, it bothered me and found it unacceptable. The network should apologize.

I was checking it out from inside the building. They were the only two sitting down at the time. Fox is not so patriotic after all. Business trumps the national anthem.

If I had to guess, the snafu was on the part of SJU. I'm sure that the typical pregame overview is a scheduled event to take place x minutes before tipoff

Rumor has it that Lavin left Soho late (breakfast date with Mary Jarou was planned before Fox changed the start time) and didn't arrive to CA until 15 minutes before gametime. That delayed everything.

Have we not talked about the part where the announcer said seton hall was coached by Kevin Whitehead? :cheer: :cheer:

Reaching for straws.

The late game substitutions to get the seniors on the court was a criticism? LOL

Ridiculous. Thought putting the five seniors on the court was a beautiful touch. Loved watching those kids hug each other and seeing the look on their faces. As good as it gets. Some people are just never happy.
Youse guys ever hear of the expression Tongue in Cheek?

It was GREAT to see Chris M at the game today, but very surprised he was not already in SJU Hall of Fame.
Was recently voted in by the Veteran's Committee in a close vote. Apparently didn't dunk enough to impress some voters. :)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this was Tongue in Cheek?

;)

Is there any doubt Whitehead is a team destroyer? Too bad, Willard sacrificed Sina and disrupted whatever Team Chemistry existed before he came back from injury.. Wonder why they did not Medical redshirt Whitehead? Probably because he doesn't want to be in COLLEGE next year and wanted to showcase himself for NBA draft this year.

Glad he did not come to SJU, Between him and Jordan's disappearances, etc, our team would have been in shambles.

Whitehead is all about himself and, not his team. Reminds me of BORN READY, STEPENSON.
Actually, think Lance liked to win, not sure about Whitehead.

I'll say this for Whitehead:

He has a very sturdy shoulder. I'm amazed that he didn't hurt it (or at least get it really sore) during the game, from all those long jumpers that he threw up at the basket (and usually missed).

One thing I think can be discussed about this and any game going forward is that Lavin, almost brilliantly (I know the two words in the same sentence seem mutually exclusive to some) tries to milk minutes out of subs as long as he can into the early second half to keep our starters fresh and out of foul trouble. There were some complaints about the one point margin at halftime of this game. When the B team is getting major minutes the best you can hope for is to be put into a position where our top 6 or 7 with fresh legs and limited number of fouls can overwhelm the opposition in transition in the final 15 minutes of the game.

If we dance, he deserves consideration for Big East coach of the year for coaxing a tourney bid out of essentially 6 contributing players.

Right now, Holtmann is the BE coach of the year, and it's not close. No knock on anybody, just a credit to the job he's done. Unless Butler totally collapses down the stretch (they are without a key player), he's the frontrunner.

I didn't say he deserves coach of the year, simply consideration. No doubt that we can argue about the roster problems that got us here, but he has used what we have pretty well, especially since the 0-3 start.
