Season Tickets

Cragg can make a greater change to the culture here than he could at Duke which runs itself at this point. SJU fans, man-up and support your University and team. A common thread with all the very successful programs is great fan and alumni support.
After nearly 2 decades of nothing better then mediocrity(I'm being kind) under 4 failed coaches, the school decided to jack up ticket prices considerably in the hopes that the large majority of the season ticket holders would forget the past and buy in to the hype of the new coach. I'm not knocking anyone who decided to renew, nor do I think those of us who chose not to renew are any lesser fans or that we need to "man-up" as you say, to prove our loyalty. Every single person should do what they feel is best for them. I will still support the team by purchasing tickets to select games and watching most games on TV. The fact that I will not renew my season tickets this year will not make me root any less for the team or make me any less of a fan.
Very well said.....for the record, I have never been a season ticket holder, probably will never be; my “life responsibilities” never made it feasible. I have only been on the SJU campus for about the 20-25 games I have attended there through the 50 years or so I have been a fan. Probably have attended about four times that at the Garden. Doesn’t make me less an irrational fan, rooting for a sports team knows no rationality.
Well said and I agree
Someone put up before about having a met 20 game package and all the add on benefits. The school needs to get creative. Maybe aside from the season tix you get add ons like watching a practice maybe a St. John’s picture day where you could bring your kids and get pictures with the staff and players ( especially good to get younger kids as fans early ) maybe a 20% discount on campus concessions during game or during certain games maybe a 30 minute shoot around at carnesseca anytime during the year etc. time to think outside the box and most of this stuff wouldn’t even cost the school money. Heck they’d probably sell more concessions more than offsetting the discount
All fantastic suggestions Mike.
AD Cragg has only been here a few months and has done a great deal in that short period of time.
I have no doubt that he will start implementing some or different programs in an effort to boost attendance and build good will with fans of all ages in the not too distant future.

Hello Mike, As a suggestion, you may want to consider contacting this fellow with your ideas:

I know there has been a lot of negative reaction to the changes for season tickets this year, but as a student I was happy to see the changes they made for our package this year. Last year the season ticket package was $100 for all games at Carnesecca and MSG. This year all games at Carnesecca are free for students and it costs $70 for all games at MSG. Individual games at the Garden will be $15 and supposedly all tickets will be general admission for the student sections in both arenas. In the past I have felt that our student attendance has been a little disappointing so I hope this price decrease and the new incentives leads to a rise in that area. I know this doesn't change any of the problems many of you have had with the changes to season tickets this year, but I do think this is a step in the right direction.

Thanks for posting this. I don't like to comment on everything, but I am intimately aware that Mike Cragg wants to increase student attendance at game as a major initiative of his. He knows that what really puts teeth in a home court advantage. He has also pointed out a number of times that although the moniker "Cameron Crazies" and videos of students camping out for days for tickets would make you think that Duke students are rabid followers of the team, he quickly points out that many if not most of their students only want to show up for the big games. Hopefully large numbers of students show up this season, and I imagine that perhaps price increases will help clear enough space at CA eventually for a large, loud student section. Maybe then, that adult season ticket holder in a way are subsidizing free student tickets with increased cost of tickets.

Double J's explanation of lowering the price for students makes the recent increase easier to take. A strong student presence can make a difference in the games outcome.
One further note for the ticket department. The last SJU / Duke contest at MSG had tickets selling for three times face value the day MSG put them on sale in the various ticket agencies. I know that other franchises make ticket buyers purchase tickets for a second game if they want that top game. There arenn't many games that warrant that type of interest but a good ticket department should be aware of this type of opportunity. There are probably other ways of marketing ticket sales that in my experience SJU has never taking advantage of.

Great point. If this will entice more students to attend I feel better about the increases.

I thought we’d be getting billing for our season tickets earlier this week. Anyone know when to expect them? Thanks.

Personally always felt student tickets should be free, especially if they want to increase attendance. What are everyone's thoughts on that?

FYI called ticket office on day full schedule released in the middle of business hours and got a recording telling me the hours they are open (which I was within) and telling me to try again. SMH We are not out of the mom and pop woods yet.

Well with the required “donation” to the Red White Club and the price increase my two tickets went up $925 or 70%.Major league prices now.
They want to charge the prices now it’s up to Cragg and Anderson to show significant progress or it will be a ghost town after this year

I learned the law of supply and demand in Eco101. When supply is high and demand is low...you don't increase prices...you lower them. We've done the opposite. This is a big "F" It would be better to have prospects look at full houses when they make their decisions. No one wants to play in a ghost town...but you know that already.

Ticket Prices

2018-12 games @ Carnesecca for $287=$23.91 per game
2019-12 games @Carnesecca for $295=$24.58 per game, $.67 per game increase

MSG
2018-5 games for $253=$$50.60 per game
2019-7 games for $385=$55 per game $5 per game increase

I have now experienced what many have posted. Called the ticket office today, during working hours, and got voicemail. Left a message mid-day, but never received a return call.

At this point in time, it's hard to argue that it's not a second rate operation. Let's hope Cragg can make a difference here. The department has been sad for a long time, so I can accept that it is going to take some time. Hopefully they can get back to me on Monday.
