Season Predictions

If Heron is NOT eligible, we will come in 3rd in Big East and get an NCAA bid.

If Heron is eligible, we will compete with Villanova for 1st place in Big East and will get an NCAA bid with at least a 4/5 seed.

Now you're talking Al!
My last post was deleted even though it was perfectly on topic. Those who criticize me for "repeating" so much ironically repeat their same BS themselves and the only difference is they have a different opinion. Anyway,
My only worry with you is that when you reach our age you may repeat yourself like a Gatling Gun. Just joking!
If we are fortunate to be chosen for the NCAA, please no pairing with Gonzaga, somewhere out west.
I think we are in 4/13 or 5/12 game due to OOC, which means someone more like South Dakota State, which of course presents its own challenges -- size, and us learning how to defend the 3.

11-2 OOC (alot of people think we'll beat everyone except Duke, but I see a loss to a team we should beat coming.)
11-7 In Conference

That puts us at 22-9 before the Big East Tournament, and I'm never willing to predict a win in the Big East tournament the way we've performed there lately.

If we end up at 22-10, it will all come down to the quality of our wins in the Big East Conference to determine if we get in, since we have such a poor OOC schedule.

Very reasonable 'blind' guess, LJSA--as everything is 'out there'.

I really like this team without heron. With heron I love it
Just think our advantages will far outweigh our disadvantage

12-1 ooc

14-4 big east

26-5 entering big east tourney.

With a weak OCC schedule, a total of 22 wins probably will leave us out in the cold
If we win 22 in the regular season and win a game or 2 in the BE Tourney, we're in
My biggest concern is our health - a major injury to Keita or Clark would be devastating
If we stay healthy and play together as a unit, the NCAA is a realistic expectation IMHO
I feel that way with or without Heron. He, however, would be the icing on the cake!!

Making a prediction without knowing if Heron is eligible is like predicting how good the food will be in a restaurant without knowing if the sous chef will make it in time from France for the grand opening. So we start with a major league "what we don't know".

Figueroa has some awesome stats from JC, but NCAA Division 1 is a major rise in class. Same goes for Dixon going from a low major to Big East competition. Keita is a mystery, but excellent defense and rebounding from him is a requisite for a big season. One thing I do know is that bigs tend to be foul magnets. After Keita, who we know little about, who is on the bench to provide rebounding and defense help down low?

With those caveats in place, I wouldn't trade Ponds for any guard in the country. He had an excellent season and yet his stats still allow for improvement. Tha's a scary thought for the other guy. Simon has NBA energy and athleticism. He has the versatility to run the point and play the 3 and 4 position. My guess is that he will be asked to do all of that and more. Clark got better as the season progressed. We need him to board this season. Bottom line is the order of the day will be gang rebounding, a lot of busy hands causing havoc on defense, some games where Figgy, Ponds, Dixon. Clark and, I hope, Heron, will all light it up and blow even good teams out of the gym.

This team has a lot of hungry players with chips on their shoulder, and a staff that feels the same way. I'm hoping the fans and students pack C.A. and MSG, and we get on a run and don't look back. Anything less and this board will be as pleasant as colonoscopy prep day.

You make way-too-much sense, Ray. Don't you know this is 'Redmen.com'? Lol.
Most predictions were made, assuming Mustapha plays, but you make great points about Figueroa, Dixon, Keita and our lack of 'big' depth.
I think we hope and expect Clark to step up with some muscle under the boards, and some gang-rebounding from our gaggle of athletic guards/wings, and many 'busy hands' wreaking havoc in games.
I'm looking forward to the Season and believe it will be a great one.

My take is that it is not just about the players. They need to be coached up & I've seen nothing over the last three years that makes me optimistic that that is going to happen. We could have 5 all Americans, if they do not play as a team and know the fundamentals of winning basketball, we are not going to have a successful season. I've watched the team make the same mistakes game after game for three years . Sorry for the negative comments but I do not have any faith in this coaching staff.

Predictions: 1. Endlessly Repetitive Chatter Thread reaches 450 pages ... with no end in sight ... 2. Shamorie Ponds Wins BE Player of the Year Award . Drops 31 on Duke in Durham but, Simon’s dunk in OT Wins the game . Coach K has to be restrained by Security from racing after Refs after game ends with Simon’s Dunk . 3. Heron puts up 24 in Win over Nova in the Garden . Crowd is announced at 18,762 with Redmen fans doubling Nova attendance . 4. St John ‘s Wins BE Tourney and secured automatic bid , ending all dialogue on Schedule , etc . 5. Sweet 16 season ends with OT loss to Kansas , Number 1 Team in latest rankings . Mullin graciously shakes hands with Self and Norm,. Ponds Wins Wooden Award as Player of the Year but, not the Naismith Trophy . Chris Mullin gets BE Coach of Year Award . Mike Rice is hired as Head Coach of NJIT .
