San Francisco State

I did not see this game but, it appears our team was under performing against a weak opponent.Let's hope this isn't a continuing thread thru out the season.

Lavin has had these players for 3 years now.. Results are expected from them, not excuses or Coach speak.

Unlike the midnight madness exhibition, the SFState exhibition was a real game, just as the games in Europe and they should not be taken lightly by the players. It is the job of our handsomely paid staff to get the players focused and prepared. The SFS staff earned their salaries last night. I wish I could say the same about Lavin and company.

SFS lost 14 games last year in basketball hotbeds like Pomona, Arcata, and Sonoma. We will not put butts in seats at MSG with games like these lurking in the minds of skeptical fans.

I fully expect that we will defeat Humbolt St by over 20 points since they will most likely all be high on weed and even Lavin's dizzying substitutions and lack of preparation can't change the outcome.

I think the close call with San Francisco State might be a good thing in the long run as it can serve as a wake up call to the players not to take teams lightly and that they need to prepare. Let's turn the negative into a positive

I don't think the fact that the game was meaningless Saturday is the issue here. There are certain things you expect to come along slowly early in the season, let alone the first exhibition game, and most recognize that.

There are also things you expect to be present whether it's an exhibition game, the Final 4, or shirts/skins in the middle of July. Taking care of the ball, cleaning up around the rim, and making some sort of in-game adjustment to a very basic high ball screen SFST carved us up with all game. Can we beat Wisconsin without February-caliber offensive/defensive execution? I think so. But if we are as sloppy with the ball and as soft inside 5 feet as we were Saturday, Wisconsin (especially Wisconsin) is going to put on a clinic Friday night. That's where the dissapointment was Saturday, and I don't think there is any particular justification for it besides hoping it was just an off day. They are easily correctable and hopefully we see a crisper game in those departments tonight.

On the positive side, amongst other things, Jordan and Harrison are going to be a lot of fun to watch together. This team is very fortunate that Harrison came back and seems so focused. I don't think scoring is going to be an issue with this team and I'm not sure if that would be the case without him. Natural scoring ability like his is hard to come by.

I watched the entire game, absolutely no post offense to speak of. Our best line up seems to be Jordan, Harrison, Sanchez, Dom, Sampson. Jordan and Harrison will be a handful to defend . Sampson shot too many 3 balls.

We've got to be able to balance developing Sampson for the NBA, where he needs that range, with succeeding this season. You would think that he has shown he can make those shots in practice and they are a part of the game plan. Hopefully it was nothing more than one bad shooting night. If he continues shooting this way though, Lavin needs to reign him in and get him back to playing his mid-range game.

Going in I thought Lavin had DLo by the short ones with Jordan and our depth. Now it's obvious that the reverse is the case and Lavin is damn lucky the kid put up with his crap. Watching SF St. you just wonder who would be the last player in the building you'd ever suspend for five games with important games coming up. I know we don't know the story but who's fault is that? Bottom line is that DLo always plays about the same and I never saw any in game conduct to warrant the action taken. Pretty obvious we'd be in hot water without his return this year.
Watching the game and the recruiting results you really have to wonder what this coach is doing to earn his excessive salary. Norm's no talent squads could at least play decent man to man. If he'd have had the sense to play Hardy he might have survived. He also recruited Horne, Brownlee, Burrell, Evans and DJ for less than half what Lavs steals.
With an empty 2014 class and early exits on the way this is a big year. and 2pt wins vs D2 programs isn't what I had in mind. Glad gas prices are dropping because I don't live around the corner. After Frisco though with ESPN3 available it's quite a struggle to start the car for Humbolt even if they were bringing free samples.

It's still early but don't you think there is a chance that D'lo plays better because of what Lavin did last year and that made him a better all around player and teammate

Complaining about recruiting..... I won't bother to comment. That gets a laugh. Not to mention, you're comparing Norm to Lavin, in regards to recruiting. Hold up.... LOL

Nom Roberts' team didn't play decent man to man. Get real! The same team where Lamont Hamilton, Coker, and the likes would consistently pick up fouls, while trying to go out on guards, 40' from the basket? Right! Those were some crappy defensive squads.

If you're gonna keep complaining about gas and ticket prices, then stay home. Simply one of the most dumbest things for someone to consistently complain about over and over.

You can't even do a good job of trolling. LOL

Thanks for the laugh, nonetheless. It's good for the soul.

You have no idea what transpired outside of the games, so questioning the coach's decision is ridiculous. Last season was a lost season and Coach knew that. I think Harrison will be a much better player, teammate, and person because of this. If it was so unreasonable, he would have transferred.

As for the exhibition, everyone needs to relax. The big boys always enter with the goal of getting better as a team. The little guys go in with one goal: to win a game they will talk about for the rest of their lives. I'm glad they got gut-checked early.

Duke was losing by 4 at halftime (yeah, the #3 team in the country) in their game yesterday versus Drury. They ended up winning by 16, but some of the Duke faithful were up in arms, while a few of 'em wasn't even sweating it. One particular fan mentioned it was an exhibition, and should be taken as such.

I also believe Kansas lost an exhibition game, and advanced to either the Elite 8 or Final 4 a few years ago.

Relax, folks.

I agree that the outcome was meaningless, but we continue to see the same problems. Leaving 3 point shooters open, no flow on offense, and no inside game at all.

.

This season will determine whether the players Lavin has recruited are good basketball players or just good athletes. There is a difference.

Let's see what happens tonight. Two poor exhibitions is the beginning of a pattern, but one bad game could be a fluke. So lets hope they look a lot crisper tonight.
If nothing else, I have to think the coaches will have our guys focused on their defensive assignments.

Coach Steve did not hold up SJU for money, so you can lose that part that shows up in most of your posts. Obvious you got it in for the guy, so even if you made a point it would seem slanted. Your a good poster who knows his hoops. How about starting off fresh like the new season it is?

He's still pissed years later that Mark Jackson didn't get hired. It's time to let it go, or go get some therapy.

There is a difference.

I'll ask you this.... Who do you consider, on this team, a good basketball player or just an athlete?

I'll give you 3 guys, who I consider to be "basketball players" on this current roster.... Harrison, Sanchez, and Jordan. Pointer is also well on his way.

This is a four player team...maybe five if Obekpa improved...with the others being mediocrities. No one is terrible. You can win the 20 Lavin predicted with four or five big time players and a mostly soft schedule. He claims we'll make noise in March. I'll wait and see, but at this point, I have my doubts.

Thank the basketball gods we have Harrison. We'd be in the toilet without him.
