San Francisco Pre Game Thread

Pretty good crowd tonight. I was expecting less. It was pretty quiet, however. The game was never in doubt.

Our fans don't make noise unless the other teams fans make noise.
If only there was a Lets Go Dons chant the crowd would have woke up

Prefer to see Marco in the game over Max

Agree! Don't want to sound negative, but Hooper has shown me nothing so far. Marco, meanwhile, has.

Did you miss the Penn State game?

The kid is shooting .375 on the year against mostly lower lever competition. And that includes his 5-8 game against Penn State. We all agree that he is a defensive liability. He's not capable of creating his own shot. He's not at all athlete which is even more obvious now that we're running more. Marco looks like Dan Majerle next to Max. Max averaging 10+ MPG and Marco 3+. Would like to see that reversed.

That's all well and good but this shouldn't come as a surprise. Max was known as someone who has to be given the ball for a set shot. He cannot shoot off a curl or screen. Marco on the other hand can. I'm sure you will see Marco get burn if he keeps shooting like this. And it will hopefully motivate Max. Not trying to sound like a Max as apologist but Stevie Wonder can see he can't create his own shot yet as a team we continue to waste him being in there when the other team knows his purpose and sticks to him like blue.

Orlando becoming Sean. Thats got to stop.

I hate to disagree vehemently, but Sanchez in transition is anything but Sean Evans. He has great court vision, has the ability to lead a break off the dribble, and willingly looks to give the ball up. His teammates know this, and fill the lanes. I think Sanchez between the foul lines this is becoming one of our best fast break weapons.

Watched him off the ball a lot tonight and watched SF defense against him. They only stayed in his vicinity as he floated well beyond the 3 point line. D knew full well that they had time to recover if he got a touch. Marco is a decent athlete with decent foot speed. Max is neither IMO. Not trying to knock the kid just don't see motivating factors and hard work making him in to a Big East level player. On the other hand I feel that Marco can play at this level and can help this team if given some minutes.

Your right tonight they weren't all over Max. They were worried about the athletes on the floor more. But the majority of the time when Max is in the other staff is screaming shooter at him and they stick to him like glue. Against certain teams Marco and Max can both have impacts.

So that's one game out of how many? From what I've seen, I'd rather see Marco in the three-point specialist role.

He said Max had shown him nothing so far. I asked if he saw the Penn State game where he played really well. Nothing more, nothing less.

Announcer can't get Obekpas name right lol. Good win, SJUISBACK got exactly what he wanted! ;)

It`s only the first step of what I want, I don`t want this for just one game. A nice win at that and enjoy it, but tomorrow it`s back to work to get ready for Youngstown St.

Gotta keep on improving.

Team continues to look good. Good job by the players and staff. This is not a revelation but i am impressed with our athleticism. They are buying into what Lavin and staff are teaching. Good sign. Happy for D'lo- had a real solid game.

When this team plays relentlessly, it can beat anyone. Nice win against a team that's better than it looked last night.

Whiplash!
No, not because we whipped the Dons (Vito Corleone's favorite team) but because I literally have a sore neck from all the dizzying substitutions made by the wizard of Lavinwood last night! At one point Lav was telling Ron Linfonte to get in the game!
Safe to say the absence of Doolin has taken its toll on the SF offense and Lav felt sympathy and spared the Don's a Fordham-like embarrassment. SJ could have won by 40 but SF made a valiant comeback at the end with help of Khadim Ndiaye and Walston....wait...they were SJ walk-ons!
My only negative observations involve the play of Pointer and Branch. Both were looking for their points and forgot they had teammates.

Pointer has to be averaging at least 1 air ball per game. Of all the athletes on this team, he is the most gifted physically. If he isn't taking 500 shots a day after practice and every day in the off season, then he is throwing that gift, and a chance at the NBA, away. His jump shot is getting worse, and was not great to begin with. We are talking not even close, not around the rim and out. For the most part, I believe that you have to have it early as a shooter. Tough to change years of bad habits. But there is room for improvement if you work hard enough.

Really good complete game last night. Thought this was our best game in terms of executing strategy on both ends for 40 minutes. The 3 quarter court trap in the 2nd half looked great, Jakarr was very disruptive at the top of it. Really liked the look we showed most of the night against man starting Orlando and Jakarr at the elbows and initiating the offense through them. When they catch in that space it's a matchup nightmare, just an uncomfortable thing for most teams to have to defend when both of them are out there.

Everyone looks like they are starting to hit their stride as well, and roles are becoming defined within the flexible rotation Lavin likes to keep. The one guy we really need to get going is Branch. He has more to offer than what he's giving us right now, and we know that for a fact because we saw it last year. He was at his best last year when he was confident and opportunistic with the ball in his hands, and he seems like he's thinking right now. Hesitated and passed up that wide open three last night. If we can turn him loose off the bench the same way Jordan has as a starter the last few games, we are going to be getting 40 dynamite minutes from point every game.
