Sampson will fit right in in the NBA

I am watching the Iowa St/UCONN game. There are five players (just in this one game) that I would draft before Jakarr.

Kane
Napier
Boatright
Hogue
Ejim

My bad, there were six players in that game I would draft before Sampson........add DeAndre Daniels.

And have you shared your thoughts with Jakarr? I'm sure he'll take them into consideration.

I guess I do hold out hope that he will come to his senses and return to Queens. Although I know it's not happening. My guess is he goes undrafted, like Vander Blue.

As a fan, I share your frustration. But truth is he won't be the first to make this mistake, and he won't be the last. I was -- naively, no doubt -- hoping his "mentor" Lebron would talk him out of it. But I think Lebron's got other things on his mind.

This is the same tired nonsense we get all the time around here. A guy leaves and then a bunch of posters talk about how bad he was at this or that.

Sampson was a good player for us -- not a superstar, but he was good. Its a big loss for our team. We can all nitpick if we want about whether he ran back on defense hard enough or about whether he SHUT DOWN McDermott or merely LIMITED him, but go back in time one week and every one of us were very happy with the prospect of Sampson playing the 4 for us next year.

Now that he's leaving (which I agree is a bad decision, by the way), he was an underachieving dog. Silliness.

Agree..My comment about him jogging back on defense was not a nitpick on him but on the staff for not breaking these tendencies...I was a fan of his and think he is a big loss

I was at the Garden for the Michigan St. v Virginia game last night. I do not think Jakaar would have started for either Virginia or Michigan State. How is he going to make it to the NBA as a result of leaving school now? I fell sorry for him. He is receiving bad advise.

Yes , he is getting bad advice I don't know why lavin is giving him the ok to leave . I think his age has a lot to do with it , turns 21 soon and he was suppose to be a junior this year. Scouts hate old prospects unless you do what Doug is doing, sad to say he will not get drafted , reminds me of Adonis Tomas of Memphis when he declared after his soph season two years ago.

Most draftable college basketball players are 22 when they are seniors. Most big players 6'9 and above take longer time to develop physically. Age has no factor in his decision. If you were at the Robert Morris game you saw an unmotivated player who barely kept up in the offense. He is not following a dream, he is following a fantasy.

From Mitch Lawrence's article in today's NY Daily News.......

"Syracuse’s PG Tyler Ennis is projected to be a late lottery pick. But we’ve yet to talk to a GM who has St. John’s JaKarr Sampson listed on his draft board, including the second round … "

Ok so maybe age did not factor in his decision , but age is certainly a factor when it comes to NBA scouts. Scouts always look for potential that is not tapped yet in 18,19,20 year olds. Yes most draftable college players are seniors, like the chandler parsons, Kyle singler, Danny green , Sam young, draymond green, kris Joseph, Eric Murphy, Carl Landry, of the world, but they get drafted in the second round for a reason. Scouts feel like their potential have been tapped already, meanwhile these are the guys that end up being more successful than the younger guys that get drafted. Weird but that's how the NBA works. The same thing will happen to CJ fair this year and he is going to be a steal in the second round.

Yes I was at the Robert Morris game sitting court side next to jerseyshorejohnny. Jakarr got in foul trouble the first 4 mins of the game and should of been thrown out for trying to choke that kid. Nobody on the team looked motivated to play, there hearts were out of the game when is was 16-4 , it's tuff to get into any flow when your in foul trouble and your team in down by 25 when you get back in the game. I do agree with you that it did look like he did not want to be there anymore you saw it in his face, which is why the last minute of the game I was screaming out " one more year Jakarr one more year." You may not realize it now , but you def heard me because it was dead silent , and I was screaming that really loud. Rough road ahead for Jakarr to fulfill his fantasy.

I know he said he plans to sign with an agent, and how much this was an "easy decision" for him, but has he signed with an agent yet?

Mitch Lawrence of the Daily News said in his column today that, "There is not one NBA GM who he has spoken too who even has Jakkar Sampson on their draft board. Not even in the second round."

So sad.
Is there any way he can see that and come back?

What's worse is that he's not even a top euro league talent right now either. That is for guys like Napier. I've been saying all year...I wouldn't even sign Sampson to the summer league or an NBDL--although I am sure someone will if not just as a favor.

This kid is getting some VERY bad advice... what a joke!!!

Sampson is an injury away from being just another schmuck headed straight to the NBDL... Thanks for nothin son!

I don't see how Sampson doesn't see at this point that he is not getting drafted. After the Final Four, all the Kentucky kids are going to declare and that's just going to push him further and further down. I may be way off but I think he's not going to sign with an agent and that he comes back. Anything else would just be utter stupidity at this point. unless he can gain 10 lbs of muscle and develop an outside game between now and the draft.

As long as he doesn't sign with an agent he can come back. He may be too embarassed. His best bet would be to return and work on his game, including his team game rather than hurt the team by showcasing his skills as he said he did earlier in the year.

Scotch?

He's going to the D-league or Europe, and I think he knows that. He probably is holding out hope that he gets drafted in the 2nd round, but I think for the most part he knows he's starting outside the NBA.
