Terrible coaching job by Dunlap at the end
its ignorant to blame Dunlap.. If they made their free throws, it would've been a win. if they shot 50% from the line they win it..ona side note, lived watching these guys all year and hope we best Pitt, especially cuz they're leaving the BE

And yet they finished right where the coaches thought they would, except the coaches thought they would have had Pelle, Sampson and Lindsey. And they finished ahead of Nova and Pitt. Hell they finished with A BETTER RECORD than Nova.

Complain all you want. But a six-man team in one of, if not the best conference in the country, was thisclose to being 16-15, 8-10 and tied for ninth in the conference.

Great post.

In the beginning of the season on that prediction thread I predicted 14 wins so this was about what I expected.

This loss sucks today but I'm real happy with the guys we have and think they have a very bright picture.

2 have 2 players who could be B.E freshman of the year is outstanding and they are also 2 of the best freshman in the country.

Amir is coming on strong and Phil had a tough night but has played very well the 2nd half of the year.

Close the deal on some guys for next year and with the upside of the current kids we can look to next year and be real excited.

It's a far cry from Jarvis and Norm when we had no hope going into the following seasons

Agreed. These guys grew up a lot and gave us all they had. The 6-7 man rotation is unheard of with no other players besides walkons. I've enjoyed watching the, and would love to see them beat Pitt.

Great post, and Della's too. You guys both summed it up pretty well. Tough loss, but we exceeded expectations for this season and there's plenty of reasons to be optimistic for next season. Something we couldn't say in the past.

One thing I will say is I think this game highlighted the need to add scoring. For a long time we've said the pieces we needed to add were Big men and a pg, maybe a shooter as an after thought. You could see tonight, and that we need another reliable scoring threat.
And if Moe were to leave after next season it would make it that much more important to have somebody returning along with D'angelo who can put the ball in the bucket.

But what we DON'T NEED is that stereotypical, unathletic, stand in the corner, no defense- "shooter". That's not the answer. We need somebody who fits the system but is a capable scorer. Part slasher, decent shooter.

Maybe Amir or Dom develop into that guy. Amir has been looking better and better, but I'm not sure he'll ever fit that role. He's just not a threat to shoot the ball.

Anyway, that's my two cents at this point. Looking forward to what Lav does in a few weeks.

Went to the game tonight (and the lousy free throw losses to A&M and 'Nova...so apparently I'm part of the problem, but we'll deal with that at another time) and it was pretty apparent that the issue was point guard. Phil and D do all they can, but they're not seasoned pg's. This was a foul-plagued game for both teams that had no flow, and without good point guard play, there was a lot of standing around and chucking. D seemed to hardly take any shots in the first 15 minutes of the game, so he just forced shots to get int the flow. A pg would have changed everythng. We will have that with Branch in mid-December, which is great. We couldn't even get a decent press or trap going tonight with all the fouls and missed shots. Tough, slow game to watch.

With 9 seconds to go I really expected Harrison would get his pick and drive to the basket, especially the way the refs were calling fouls. Even if they double teamed him he could look inside for Harkless. Oh well! Needed this win to play Nova. Pitt playing much better; looked tough against Uconn today. Should we advance we get G'town rather then S. Florida. Doesn't look good.

I predicted 13 regular season wins. I've been spot on for the last decade in all of these prediction posts. I think the furthest off I was was 2-3 wins in Norm's second to last season.

I say that not to pat myself on the back (too much)...I say it because I predict a Sweet 16 next season.

Uconn won 7 conference games with that huge freshmen class of RIP, Voskuhl, Freeman, Wane, and a few others. They also had a senior (King?) putting up big time #'s and two very, very good soph's that just had a year with a 30-win squad featuring four NBA players. We came a shot away from seven conference wins without Uconn's experience, size, or depth. That UConn team needed a point guard, and they god El-Amin at the end of that season. They won the national championship two years later. We need a point and a big...we got the #51 player in the class of 2011 at the end of our bench waiting, and Lav will deliver the bigs.

These kids have hit my win total on the head, but they have far surpassed even my lofty goals for them as far as development. The future is better than we've ever had it.

Marillac, agreed. These kids have played handicapped all year, but not because of talent. It's been size and depth as we've all discussed at length. I look forward to a possible upset or two next week, and a great 2012-2013.

These kids will compete with Pitt this time around, mark my words. And win or lose, they will never see another season they don't win 20+ games.

I can't wait to see how these kids respond to Pitt after the blowout. After they lost by 30 to Seton Hall, they won three straight. They are going to punch Pitt right back in the mouth.

Yes they will. Pitt was shooting lights out the other night...do it again. I don't see it. Seton Hall also shot lights out against us, but got their heads handed to them by DePaul tonight. We'll beat Pitt back at the Garden and feeling the energy of the tournament. Looking forward to it.

Pitt isn't going to shoot like that again on tuesday.

We definitely have a chance. Just gotta rebound better

Just got back from the Port of Bayonne. HEY RUTGERS, PUT SOME LIGHTS IN YOUR DAMN PARKING LOT! It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I haven't read the thread so I hope I'm not repeating what's already been said. Dumb fouls, missed free throws and an inability to box out down the stretch did us in.

Valiant effort considering the early foul trouble. It was an exciting game and the Rutgers fan sitting around me were gracious enough (or able to ignore me) considering how idiotic I behaved.

I wouldn't be shocked to see them come out man-to-man. Pointer on chubby Gibbs. Gibbs can't handle that intensity, length, and athleticism. It gives us a better chance on the boards as well, and you know they will be preparing primarily for the zone.

I'm excited for this game. I would not want the task of ending 3'Angelo's season...the dude is ready for another 7-trey game. I smell 30!

Gift probably has the fewest fouls on the team. They need to feed him raw meat with tabasco sauce before the game and send him out there to lay a body on someone. He must learn to box out.

coming out of a timeout the play was to shoot a 3? i don't understand that! Moe should of touched the ball and took it to the rack

I never like taking a 3 when you only need a 2 to win, but lets not jump on them for taking a 3. We dont know what play was called, maybe they took away the initial play and we had to 'settle for the 3".

This game was lost at the FT stripe. Cant shoot under 45% and win, although they almost did. This is the second game that our FT shooting lost a game. The first being Texas A&M. However, there is alot to take from the last 5 games. Amir is becoming a nice option offensivley and GG had 2 good games in a row.

However, what we lacked all season bit us again tonite. Lack of another outside shooter and rebounder. On Millers put back Mo got a little to close to the basket, but actually our Defense on that play was good and it mad rutgers take a forced shot which caused for the lack of weak side rebounding.

With the regular season being over, i want to first say that i am very proud of this team. Playing the majority of the season with 6 men, they did an unbelievable job. Wins and Loses dont show the true grit and determination of this team. Hopefully we can get a win against Pitt and a chance to play gtown again.

This might have been the most fun i have had watching a st johns team play in a long time.

Thank you, to the players and coaches.

Best post I have read on this thread in a while.

"this might have been the most FUN I have had watching a st johns team play in a long time".

Sorry, but if you call a 6-12 season with blowout losses to Louisville, Marquette, Syracuse, Seton Hall, Kentucky, And Cincy I don't see the FUN in this season.

Actually this season, for me, was one of high hopes for an exciting young team with a program on the rise. Lavin's cancer, recruits not being eligible, and NL transferring put this program on its heels again and needs to built up by Lavin again.

Was at the game last night and got home late from Piscataway.

Kids played with effort.. RU couldn't make any of their shots except their free throws. Our free throw shooting and Mo Harkless offensive game tonight cost us this game.

It will be very interesting to see how Lavin is able to improve this program going forward. Hopeful, and optimistic but also extremely guarded.
