It's not possible for the BE poy to go undrafted. Barbecue chicken did and RJ is infinitely more athletic with much more of an NBA body type.

Collin Gillespie (twice), Myles Powell and Markus Howard are three relatively recent examples of guys who won the Big East Player of the Year Award and were not drafted by any NBA team.

I like RJ a lot and did something Malik never did, but Malik may actually be the most underrated player in program history.
In my time as a fan Mullin, Berry and Sealy by far the best players in school history.

Imagine resigning RJ, Zuby, and somehow get Deivon back in the fold.

I am loathe to pat myself on the back but taking your lead I posted when we got RJ’s commitment that he was a poor man’s Dr. J. Was high on RJ from day one.

Agree on point 2. Would have been great to have Berry with Mark Jackson for 1986-87 season. But Berry left at the right time, as did Harkless, An 11 year career and 67 million in career earnings for Harkless is reason enough. Cook and Barkley left too soon. As one former scout told me before his St. John's career ended, Ponds just didn't shoot it well enough for the NBA. Probably needed more maturity as well.

Big East POY well deserved. What really impresses me about RJ is his willingness to play physical and take a pounding without losing his cool. We have had some talented players that wanted to start a fight every time there was contact. RJ is not built for contact as much as some players, but it doesn't change his approach to the game. Having a big heart and will to win is what matters.
