RJ Luis

Agreed… no one was playing well including RJ and can understand sitting him at a point. Last 5 minutes with game on line is not that time. He was the one kid on the team that maybe had a chance to carry us back. He deserved better. I will always believe that.

I agree with you…but if he is being told by his coach to do something and repeatedly ignoring it (and not delivering), at some point the coach has to take action. With 2 mins left I would have put him back despite that but I also don’t have 2 National titles, 6 teams to the ncaa tourney so I’m going to defer to the guy who does.

From a strategic perspective, it’s surely questionable. But he’s not entitled to anything, especially with the way he played today
Entitled … no. Everyone eats what they kill under Rick…

I do however believe RJ should be allowed the longest leash… and maybe he got to the end of his by 5 mins left…

Just such a twilight zone sight seeing an AA on the bench looking hallow, in a do or die game

We weren't winning when RJ was playing so who knows what the outcome would have been if Rick put him back in. Maybe a better chance to win or maybe the same outcome. Who knows.

It seems Rick treats his players like his kids. Tries to teach them and help them grow. I know if my kid was blatantly disobeying me and acting out, I would reprimand them the same.

I'm only guessing that Rick pulled him because he wasn't playing team basketball. Did it hurt the game? Maybe, probably, I dont know. But if RJ comes back for one more year at SJU, the memory of watching his teammates lose a game with him on the bench will not be forgotten.

Interesting. Maybe this is the moment that turns RJ into a selfless leader once and for all. It’s definitely a pivotal moment in his career.

Was a risk for sure despite his poor play, but Pitino’s call.

Feel bad for RJ it ended this way, but he was sat multiple times during the game in which I assume Pitino was imploring him to get with the game plan. Guess Pitino had enough at the end. It was also clear when Zuby was trying to motivate him, the body language shown was not good.

Gave us all he had all season but the moment today seemed a bit much. Hopefully he learns from this, returns and get us back to this point and beyond.

I don’t see RJ leaving for another school. He knows Pitino’s system and to go and learn a new system and gel with 11 new players doesn’t seem like the ideal situation for him. I know going pro is an option, but I don’t believe it’s realistic

Did I scratch my head? Sure. But he was 3-17. Personally I would have had him on the court under instructions to serve a decoy. Its not like they would leave him wide open. But Rick chose a different path. You live with Rick rolling the dice and die by it too.
I only wish that Pat Riley did the same thing in Game 7 in 1994. Might have won a title if he did.

Did what to himself? Played his butt off all year. Took us to two champsionshops. Won big east player of the year and then had the audacity to have a bad game in the NCAAs. He did nothing to himself.
Didn't listen to his coach, didn't stick to the gameplan, didn't pass the ball, didn't look like the RJ of the last 3 months, didn't seem to be committed to defense. Just one bad game at the worst time. Still thankful for the year he put in.

After winning BE POY, BE Conference Tournament MOP, being named second team AA, having a good opening round game he may have mentally gotten a little too big for his britches, thought he could do anything and tried to do too much.

Well said. The bread crumbs were pretty easy to follow on this one. I’m certainly not questioning the Godfather.

I don’t think it’s the latter. He’s always a kid that forces the issue on offense at times to get going. He was trying to get make something happen and pressing a bit I’m sure. We’ve seen him turn it around in-game like this before by being insanely aggressive. Just didn’t work today and no doubt there was an issue of not doing what RP was preaching.

Where would we be with out RJ this year? Not here obviously, but he showed his selfish lackadaisical attitude today. Staring down his teammates, literally watching loose balls go by him and showing no effort to get after it. He could have been 0-30 and still would
Have played if he just kept his head in the game . He most definitely received a scolding from coach at some point and couldn’t accept it. From his body language to
His
Effort, his ego was popped today and
It showed. From Zuby trying to get him to snap out of it and be team player he just didn’t give a f$&k about his team today. Great season for the kid
But very immature, showed it last year and flashes of it this year, For Kadari, the
Refs just weren’t on his side today, all in all
for a fan thats been following the Johnnie’s since I was 12 ( im
38) . Hell of season.
