Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

And so it begins.....

Rick Pitino, St. John's

There's one guy out there who isn't on the initial Hot Board that I think Indiana should take a run at: Rick Pitino. I know, I know, he's getting up there in age (72) and it's tough to know how many more years he will want to do this. He's also a perfect fit in the Big East and the Big Apple.

I do know this, though -- Pitino is still as good of a coach as there is, commands respect and he would make Indiana relevant the second he was announced as a head coach. I don't need to list his accolades because anybody reading this knows them and his track record speaks for itself. Worried about past NCAA problems? Who cares. Do you want to win or worry about some missteps from over a decade ago? This is an elite coach who is highly motivated to win back the title that the NCAA took away from him. He could absolutely do that in Bloomington.

I can promise you this. No reasonable observer, basketball fan or media member would roll their eyes or think the Hoosiers are playing fast and loose if they were to go after Pitino. They'd think, "Those guys aren't playing around."
If Rick was 10 years younger I’d might be worried. Yes they have endless money to spend. However, you literally have to win a National title in 2-3 years there or be very close. Fan base is ND Football. It’s probably going to Chris Beards job.

I found it funny when Goodman said Pitino would want to go to a real college campus like Indiana since St. John's is mostly a commuter school. I went to undergrad in NC and grad school at St. John's. While the college campuses in NC are certainly more impressive, it's out of necessity because the surrounding areas generally don't have anything going on.

Pitino is 72 years old and in NEW YORK CITY. He's constantly posting about things such as 5 star restaurants and Yankees games. He's nearly selling out MSG most games and has already built a legit Final Four contender in year 2. If he ever leaves it'd be all about money, certainly not because of a campus in Bloomington, but I don't expect him to ever leave regardless.

I don't expect him to leave either, but probably can't hurt to give him a raise this off season.

Adding Dayton is equal to adding another Providence quality team this year, SLU is equal to adding a better DePaul. I don't think adding more mediocrity in the middle does anything.

We missed the boat not going all out for Gonzaga/St. Mary's, although it doesn't seem like they were interested in joining anyway.
Gonzaga made it clear, they were not interested and without Gonzaga, St. Mary’s is not worth it.

I agree with you 100% on adding more mediocrity which would be expanding just to expand to get to 16 or 18 doesn’t make sense if they don’t add anything else to the conference.

if we don't add a team like Dayton... and consider them to be "below" Big East caliber... the only teams that make sense, are in the ACC.

Duke/ND/Wake/BC/Cuse... (Dayton and St.Louis have been been better than BC recently right?)... if we can't add ACC schools... we dont have much other options

Dayton is a maybe to me, but I don't disagree if the idea is to wait and see how revenue sharing impacts things. I've been supportive in the past of Dayton, but I find the performance of non-football schools very discouraging this year. Its unclear if its a trend or a fluke.

I wasn't aware that Memphis looked into joining the Big East last September. They don't fit the conference at all in a myriad of ways, but I do trust their basketball program to be very good. https://archive.vn/5MP4W

I know it’s anathema to *some* on this board (I don’t mean you Paultz) and no individual in particular but YES it is possible to love the team but see shortcomings in a performance. Coach RP knows we could and hopefully WILL get better the longer they play together.
Watched UConn win video again and must say overall we did not play well offensively and could have lost if RJ missed the big shot. Obviously the D was incredible. So Pitino has a point.

Dayton does move the needle in a positive direction and would make sense but is not the earth shaker some make them out to be. If you are going to expand, I would include them however we need more with higher profiles. At the very least, whomever is added must have at the very least the same profile as Dayton.

With ESPN picking up the ACC media rights option they held and the potential deal allowing teams to leave, the ACC might not implode. We shall see how it plays out but the BE needs strong leadership and I don’t think Val is up to the task.

Dayton has strong following, fans who travel well and ample NIL apparently. I assume their recruiting appeal would possibly rise leaving A10 for BE.

Rick real confident in Garden rematch sticking it to Hurley even more. Looked like Hurley gave Rick the bum's rush on the handshake line.

Obviously no love lost between the 2 and who cares .
Hurley is , at most times , a unlikeable lunatic .
He whines , curses , complains about every call the Huskies don’t get .
Pitino ,,on the other hand , is Mr Cool on the sidelines , except when he’s in a huddle Wyeth the team .

I think I caught Pitino in a quiet chat with one of the officials , saying “ don’t let Hurley get away with the crap he’s peddling to the officials.”

At least , that’s what my lip reading skills told me he said . I’m looking forward to my 2nd class later this week
