Four years is enough to enjoy this. Billy Donovan will only be 63 and Dan Hurley will have already flamed out as a NBA coach.

I believe if Rick gets this program humming and is still enjoying it he could stay for another 3 year contract extension!

I strongly doubt either Mas or Rick Jr. gets a free lane to the job no matter what Rick desires. If we can have a few head turning seasons, imo the job will be more attractive meriting a search. I’m not worrying about post Rick “stuff” & am going to enjoy the hell out of this ride!

I don’t think anybody knows what Kadary would have done and it’s not a good look coming from a coach. As Sha said, most coaches wouldn’t be able to get away with it. But Pitino is a hall of fame coach and we’re winning. I’m so glad we have him don’t get me wrong, but some of the stuff he says is cringe worthy.

Not exactly. Freshman year was 64-65, NIT champs when it was the premier postseason tournament and winning didn’t traumatize us.

What worries me (and will continue to do so until that moment arrives, regardless of our results before that), is what's going to happen when Rick decides to hang it up?

Is he going to force Masiello, or even his son, on us? My guess is Rick is going to do a fall retirement, like Tony Bennett, and we will have no choice.

Noting against Mas, but when Rick goes, I'd rather do a full-on search, and come up with the best candidate. But, I don't think we're going to be able to do that.

I say enjoy the ride and don’t worry about the future. We could do worse than Richard Pitino as the successor.

The coach has to want you, too. Dan Hurley turned down a bigger offer from Pitt, to go to UCONN. That's just one example.

Rick may have a certain number of total wins in mind. he's about 50 from 800 plus he has near 200 from NBA. Maybe his target is combined 1,000 to 1,100??

Right now he is the clear leader in for the Lazarus award (for raising the dead).

I am pretty sure he counts the 123 the NCAA took away from him.

Even if Richard has less than sustained success at New Mexico similar to his Minnesota experience? Yes, so far he is doing well at New Mexico, but I think he needs to sustain that to merit consideration for a BE HC spot.

Rick is here for another 4 years. If Richard is good enough to warrant a power conf HC job, he’ll be off the board long before his dad retires. He was interested in the Louisville job last year and will bolt from his crappy Mountain West prison as soon as hes able. If he’s still at NM in 4 years, it’s because he isn’t quite good enough.
