Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

I'm waiting for Pitino to make his MSJGA (Make St. John's Great Again) speech. I'm most disappointed in the lack of coaching adjustments. Did he not recognize that his roster was slow-a-foot early in the season?

I also send some apologies to Marillac who was stressing the lack of speed at guard position this year. Sitting at UBS yesterday I was thinking, Walter Clayton Jr. would have destroyed that Seton Hall double team of our guards at top of key all day long.

Alleyne and Dingle way too slow for Big East play. Alleyne better suited for smaller specialist role like at UCONN and not guarding other teams lead guards

It's not Alleyne's and Dingle's lack of speed; it's more so their inability to handle the basketball.

I have not been happy with Slicks adjustments, Shaheen made adjustments yesterday and they bent us over. I’m happy I did not attend yesterday would’ve been a brutal ride home back to CT.
It sounded like Rick let his assistants do the recruiting. I feel some assistants said this guy averaged this but maybe really didn’t watch them play. Saw some anccolades by the way they’re local. Also, with the NIL I wondered if they’re a few kids out of HS that Rick liked but felt they’d have to sit and didn’t want to risk spending NIL dollars. Also, I feel he was probably told by administration to clean house of the fmr. Which, is only a guess to strengthen the case vs MA. I also feel Rick has been hard on a lot these guys because they’re making money now in the open. Personally I would’ve saved that for behind closed doors. What made Ledlum come back to us? I don’t think it was only playing time? Rick is a maniac you get good with the bad. If I had to guess Mas, RJ, BW are use to this. Today’s player is soft in general, society is soft. We live in a ambulance chasing lawyer/HR world where if you look at someone wrong they’re offended.

Will see how they play against top hat Ed Wednesday!

We are St.John’s fans it is what it is! We can always deal.

To quote the great Peter North- Just keep on plugging.

Sometimes you just need the guys. What coaching adjustments would you like him to make? This group is just so limited, and not consistent enough each possession. You can’t get that creative with this roster. He would know, he’s been coaching 50 years.

The main fault I have is with the presser yesterday in which he did not take accountability for the roster. I would think though that that he knows it’s on him and he won’t let that happen again.

In terms of coaching, this team is “not good” and he’s made them “decent”. When was the last time we were top 40 in KenPom and top 50 in NET. He accomplished that with a roster that really can’t shoot and has many defensive deficiencies.

He will get the guys next year. Keep an eye out on High Major guys this time around in transfer portal

Offensively, there was probably not much he could do.

After the UCONN game, he said, "my assistants always want me to play more zone, but we have to work on our man-to-man." Really, coach? You're that closed minded? This is not a good one-on-one team, and if it's because of lack of speed, that's not going to get better, so it's up to you to minimize that as much as you can. The defense he is playing almost demands speedy players.

Pitino's done nothing to try to hide the team's weaknesses defensively, whether it be more zone, less pressing, less full-court man to man. Offensively, I have more sympathy because we simply don't have shooters or creators, so I can't really tell you what there is to do.

Let’s start with free throw instruction .

Let’s start with free throw instruction .
We're at 70.5%. While that could be a little better, that's acceptable for me, although just barely (our opponents are at 73%, which is better, but not by a ton).

The problem is that we've taken 85 less free throw attempts than our opponents. That's been the problem.

Zone defense has man to man principles.

Not all five guys, though, and not all the time.

The zone can also be played many different ways, plus box and one, or triangle in two, which I consider to be forms of zone.
We don’t have the personnel to do that stuff.

Box and 1: so you put our best defender on Kadary last night. Now what about the other 4 defenders? They can just space out our defense go 5 out and make Joel defend the 3 point line. That has holes.

Triangle and 2: so you put our two best defenders (not sure we have that) on Kadary and Dawes. The two defensive guys play full pass denial in this defense. If one guy gets beat, everyone has to understand their rotation and again as coach said we don’t have the lateral quickness to do that. This type of D is susceptible to cutters in the lane. You need all 5 guys to play this too.

I like the idea and concept SJU61982 but when you go against teams that shoot quite well it’s quite hard to play a junk defense. We just don’t have the players to do it.
