Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

This has been my fear since Rick took over: that he would be given too much power to choose his successor. That rarely, if ever, works.

When Rick decides it's time to do something else, we should do a full-on search, and pick the best available candidate, but no hand-picked choices from Rick.
If Rick fails (not expecting but IF), SJ may be lucky to get Norm back.

I believe the 2 Pitino’s faced off last year . Iona played New Mexico . The Lobos won , I think on their Court . It was a OOC game , early in the season .

I didn't mean to indicate that I think he would fail.

I would be worried about him picking his successor, even if he won 2 national championships here. It's just something that usually does not work.

Alleyne is a heady guy . Plus very good shooter . Hope he is on fire vs Marquette . He has veteran smarts as does Jenkins .

He still isn’t 100 percent with the Ankle but , will play.

I liked the line up of Alleyne , Dingle , Jenkins , Ledlum and Soriano . That puts 3 decent shooters on the Court . Soriano and Ledlum concentrate on offensive rebounds . Which has been mostly missing .

We aren’t going to get any home court officiating and that’s always a factor .

Plus , our free throw shooting is poor in crunch time . Especially on the 1 and 1’s . If you don’t make them , it’s like a empty trip .

100% Agree.

Latest from Zach:

ust wrapped up access at St. John's A few notes:

-- Rick Pitino says he wants to get Chris Ledlum down to 25 minutes.

-- Plans to get Zuby Ejiofor up to 12-16 minutes per game rest of way.

-- Daniss Jenkins said they need to get one of these next two on road, but would like both of them.

-- Nahiem Alleyne said Pitino is crazier than Dan Hurley, but it's close.

-- Pitino said this team cannot win taking only 12-18 3's per game.

Dingle and Alleyne have good chemistry.

Dingle and Jenkins had good chemistry for the first time all year last game. Let’s hope that continues,

Still have confidence in Pitino and think we are extremely lucky to have him. Obviously the last month or so has been tough on the court and both Pitino and fans alike are frustrated. Definitely lots of things causing concern both from the play on the court and what's been said in postgame pressers.

On the court, it's troublesome that this team that was supposed to start peaking around this time of year is doing the opposite. The team was ahead of schedule, playing our best in the 6 game stretch starting with the conference opener against Xavier, the only loss in that stretch being a close game @UConn. You can maybe even include the @Creighton game in that as well. Starting with the Seton Hall game we've plateaued and maybe even regressed while other teams in the league like Xavier and Butler have raced past and are continuing the improve. We've been generally healthy the whole time too.

On the individual level, players aren't getting better as the season goes on. With the exception of Zuby, has any player actually gotten better over the past couple months? Soriano has his moments but has no consistency and is exposed by bigs that he can't push around physically. Dingle and Alleyne haven't come close to meeting expectations and it doesn't seem like they are on the cusp of figuring it out. Taylor has regressed (though not by too much) since earlier in the season. Luis has his flashes but still way too many boneheaded plays. Dunlap has been virtually invisible since his two game mini Linsanity run. Sim is still unplayable.

In the postgames, Rick is dropping clues that he's not as confident as he was once was that the success here will come in a big and quick way. His comments about how difficult it is to build a culture in today's college sports landscape as well as comments about how tough it is for first year guys to pick up the system tells me that he still has a good chunk of adapting to do, because a team with first year players playing major roles is going to be the norm across the country now and other coaches have figured out how to make that work.

On the recruiting front, while NIL is going to be the deciding factor for most kids, guys wanting to play for a HOF coach and committing here due "The Pitino Factor" has taken a big blow this year. You better believe opposing coaches are going to talking about how "The Pitino Factor" turned the second leading scorer in the country last year into a guy barely scoring 10ppg. Whether justified or not, it's going to give kids some pause.

Sobering and realistic commentary Mug

He threw together a team in a month. He grabbed what he could get. He had no inroads with recruits and it is showing this year.
Next year the process will be more methodical. He knows players that are transferring and will have more time to put the pieces together.
Pitno is going to get this team to a place where they are winning consistently. He has done it everywhere he’s gone.
