Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

If we lose to Xavier, I'm plainly blaming it on Coach. How dare he spend a Sunday night in New Mexico? Means he wasn't at practice yesterday, and won't be at practice today. Is he even going back to NY, or is he meeting the team in Cincinnati? Inquiring minds want to know. 🤣😂

At least he wasn't at a Sunday matinee or doing hot yoga, like one of our prior coaches

For the record in case people are curious the team had Thursday and Sunday off

He saw Lunardi's bracket projection and wanted to get started on scouting. :D
 
Maybe our expectations for year one were too high? We’re competitive and pretty much in every game outside of seton hall

It’s always been a 3 year plan right? That’s the year we’re take off.
 
I will admit it. I certainly had us pegged higher based on stats and how these guys have done over the past couple years at their previous schools. I also thought Pitino was just joking around especially in the beginning when he would comment negatively on these player’s ability and just trying to motivate.
Well I finally realized he is being serious when he says (and he said it again at the Friday night event before he left early for the Saturday game) that this group is very unathletic but he loves their heart. He says next years team will be much more athletic and with more size.

So for the rest of this year I will watch the games and enjoy the effort going forward. Aside from a game or 2 we’ve been in every game minus some lapses within these games.

If we take care of business and win what we are expected to we will certainly be dancing. The time is now to re start winning again and finish up strong. Let’s hold serve at home and beat the 4 games we all know are absolute no mess ups.
 
It’s always difficult to make wholesale changes to a roster and expect a well oiled machine on the other end. I wish we could have kept some more of our players from last season and blended them with some of Rick’s recruits.

Other teams have done it especially the last couple of years (Kansas state Miami Florida Atlantic). So why not us. He put together what he could in a moments notice and it appeared maybe we could entering the season. Well there is still time….but time is running out. It’s now or never for this year.
 
The things I see watching all the games. Drive me crazy the lack of getting back on defense because of not hustling. The inability to grab a rebound. The senseless reach in fouls. Awareness of switching quickly and getting beat.
I am not even a basketball coach. So all the other intricacies I miss must drive people who know the game more than me crazy.
Is there any way Pitno can get more out of this team then what we witness game to game?

I’m talking about being in games we are not “expected” to win.

Take away the Michigan game which we totally were not prepared for and the seton hall game which I’m willing to throw out since Pitino didn’t coach and we had sickness around.

We are still very much on a trajectory to make the tourney. We need to just win what we are supposed to and hold serve at home. If we don’t win we won’t make it. It’s simple from here on out.

I don’t see us favored realistically in any game other than GTown & DePaul. Any NCAAT team is expected to win games they weren’t favored in. I just get exhausted from 12-13 yrs of excuses & I’m still young. Can’t imagine 25 yrs of excuses. Let’s hope somehow we find a way to NCAAT which is still my bar for success. Next yr get rid of dead weight.
