Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Funny, I worked with Sam Goldaper at the Nassau Coliseum who was mentioned in the story. He was a real trip.
That's when the NYT had a Sports section, and at one time had some great sports columnists. They actually covered sports, but except for the Final Four run in '85 the NYT wasn't usually big on college sports or St. John's.

Sports section is gone, though they own The Athletic. The great columnists are gone too.

Before closing down the sports section they basically abandoned local coverage and did long-worded articles on things like high school basketball on native reservations and Australian rules football, esoteric pieces.

Rick was one of first coaches to track and reward deflections. They are rhythm breakers against opponents often leading to poor shots late in clock or turnovers.

This team will go as far as total commitment and attention to D takes them. Pressure is strategic under Rick v mindless helter skelter nonsense we saw in last few seasons. His emphasis also on recovering when pressure is broken to find shooters is another area of D excellence players hopefully will become consistent in.

He may be there, but that’s sure not Pitino in that video.
Sorry, guys. Was focused on the man behind Pitino (who, I am positive, is not Pitino😳😳😳).

Don’t know about you, but a week between games after a 20 point sweep of Villanova is way too long between games for me. Excited to see where this season could take us
