Rick Pitino - Head Coach at St John’s University!!!

Like many New York City attractions , the Rockefeller Tree lighting is best experienced once in person .

Best place to watch ? At home on your couch , warm and cozy . I tape it , so I can power through the Entertainers I don’t enjoy .

Never did it, nor Times Square NYE, though I was at Roseland Ballroom my last NYE in NY.

Thank God for father shanley.
“Shanley had asked his staff at St. John's to compile a list of candidates for the job, and Pitino, a Hall of Famer who was coaching nearly 20 miles away at Iona, initially wasn't on it.”

Joe Oliva probably wanted James Jones 😅

Thank God for Mike Tranghese....

Sounds like he also influenced Fr Shanley.

Mike must read this board...LOL...either way he most certainly knows our fan base....

"I said, 'Father, I have no doubt if you hire the right one from this group that this person can have some success,'" Tranghese recalled. "'But your fan base has been waiting 32 years to win. They're beaten down, they've been operating in despair for so long.

"'The only person to dig you out of that and give you a great basketball coach and win is Rick. We need to just talk about Rick and forget about everybody else.'"

This is akin to Pete Rozelle telling the Wellington and Tim Mara to get their sh*t in order and hire George Young to clean up the mess from years of neglect because they could not stand each other to the point they stopped speaking with one another.

I have no doubt that this group of young men will collectively take this as a warning and a challenge, and will rise to the occasion. Where as many on last season's team would have been collectively offended and would have sulked. Yet another reason why it was imperative that Rick bring in his own players, even if it meant cutting loose some very talented players in the process.

Totally agree last years team had the "victim" mentality! This years team has the "accountability" mentality.

It boggles my mind, and infuriates me, that Pitino was not on the list of candidates compiled by Shanley’s staff. Was Cragg a member of the staff?

I don't know if Pitino's a good guy or not (never met him), but I think, in modern college basketball, it is borderline impossible to win consistently without being somewhat ruthless, and by somewhat, I mean quite often.

Hard to see how that wouldn't include the current AD.

Great point. As can be seen from some of their individual games this season, last years team had some real talent. But collectively they were hot garbage, and they didn't play hard most of the time. This group is much more fun to watch.

Of course, more fun than last years group is a low bar.

The only list that mattered is Fr Shanley ‘s . We saw the result of his list . RP here and doing the heavy lifting of improvement .
