(Oct. 30, 2023) – The New York Stock Exchange will welcome the St. John’s men’s basketball team and representatives of MSG Entertainment to ring in the start of the much-anticipated college basketball season on Tuesday. To honor the occasion, St. John’s Head Coach and Hall of Famer, Rick Pitino, will ring The Opening Bell®.

The camera panned the floor and somebody was holding up a St. John’s jersey
Tuned in to see opening bell and saw Rick, Father Shanley and team for about 10 seconds - if you blinked you missed it. Still, more great publicity for the program!Rick is all over the place, he better “Pace” himself.

As I recall (and I am not a Finance guy) for some reason college BB (among many other sports) is VERY "B I G "on Wall Street with St. John's being the most loved program among the Wall St. crowd that I knew of. Guys most of whom didn't go to St. John's but grew up in and around NYC all love the JOHNNIES (not eh RedStorm name as much) WE Are NYC's TEAM. Finance is NYC's jam.
Going back to the beginnings of the BET when it moved to the Garden the suits from Wall Street were well represented.
Can someone confirm that SJU has more than its fair share of Wall Street I've heard that said many times.
(After 09/11-- I recall that SJU had a disproportionate number of victims because so many grads worked downtown (plus a bunch of FDNY too).

I am a finance guy . I have worked on Wall Street for 14 years , my office is on 40 Wall Street . This is indeed very true . There are many St John fans through out Wall Street . Even people that went to other schools that are huge sports fans always root for St. John’s .
Rick Pitino has revived the excitement in a lot of people . I know a lot of people on Wall Street that haven’t gone to a St. John’s game , but are now season ticket holders .
