Rick’s Targets

Wilcher is a stud that is a point guard. Daniss isn’t a pure Pg. Wilcher left UNC most likely because the PG spot was getting crowded. We can start Daniss for sure, but when all is said and done I think Wilcher would be hard to keep down. Obviously Rick will figure it out. They can split time. Just think Wilcher gonna be tough to beat out down the stretch.
I think it’s hard to assume Wilcher would be better suited to play point than a 5th year guy in Dannis. He’s got plenty of guard skills but hard to say he’s any more of a pure point than Dannis, who’s assists and A:TO we’re top notch in college.

Wilcher is obviously a very very good player and will be our highest rated recruit in a very long time. He's generally considered a top 30-40 prospect in the class. Taking a look at prospects 30-40 the past 2 years to see what year one expectations should be.

2022
30 - Seth Trimble (UNC) - 9.8 MPG, 1.8 PPG
31 - Terrance Arceneaux (Houston) - 13.9 MPG, 3.7 PPG
32 - Ernest Udeh Jr (Kansas) - 8.3 MPG, 2.6 PPG - Transferred
33 - Collin Chandler (BYU) - Mormon Mission
34 - Skyy Clark (Illinois) - 24.4 MPG, 7 PPG - Transferred in the middle of the season
35 - Tre White (USC) - 26.7 MPG , 9 PPG - Transferred
36 - Henry Veesaar (Arizona) - 7.1 MPG, 2.4 PPG
37 - MJ Rice (Kansas) - 7.5 PPG, 2.2 PPG - Transferred
38 - Malik Reneau (Indiana) - 14.9 MPG, 6.1 PPG
39 - Ugonna Onyenso (Kentucky) - 6.9 MPG, 2.5 PPG
40 - Tarris Reed (Michigan) - 12.6 MPG, 3.4 MPG

2021
30 - Tamar Bates (Indiana) - 14.5 MPG, 3.5 PPG - Transferred after Soph year
31 - Kowacie Reeves (Florida) - 15.5 MPG, 5.5 PPG - Transferred after Soph year
32 - Efton Reid (LSU) - 19.6 MPG, 6.3 PPG - Transferred after both FR and Soph years
33 - Charles Bediako (Alabama) - 17.8 MPG, 6.7 PPG
34 - Jalen Warley (Florida State) - 19.3 MPG, 3.7 PPG
35 - Malaki Branham (Ohio State) - 29.6 MPG, 13.7 PPG
36 - Jaylon Tyson (Texas) - 6.9 MPG, 1.8 PPG - Transferred after Soph year
37 - Manny Obaseki (Texas A&M) - 13.1 MPG, 3.6 MPG
38 - Langston Love (Baylor) - Redshirt
39 - Josh Minott (Memphis) - 14.6 MPG, 6.6 PPG
40 - Tyrese Hunter (Iowa State) - 31.9 MPG, 11 PPG

Of the 20 guys that played, only 4 played more than 20 MPG in their freshman seasons. Roughly half only get 15+ MPG.

Think Wilcher getting 12-15 MPG as a Freshman would be a reasonable expectation. Obviously hope he's closer to Branham and Hunter than a Seth Trimble or MJ Rice but nearly impossible to project

Thank god I came and looked at the thread before going and doing it myself. I was gonna do 30-50..slacker!

Main takeaway from me is you really want to be in that Top 100 range. It's been inconsistent for us to even do that with the last two coaching staffs.

I never saw the kid play but I do think Jenkins best suited as 3 rd guard on good team in major conference

Interestingly I looked back at Rick’s old UK team that won the NC. He had 10 guys playing double-digit minutes on that team, and the leader in minutes was Antoine Walker at 27 mpg and Tony Delk at 26.3. He’s definitely not the type of coach not to use his depth and nobody outside of Soriano should expect much more than 25 minutes per game.

I think there would be plenty of situations where there are two guards better than him. I’m talking more about a top 40 freshmen vs a 5th year senior running the show. Not sure that would be the case here.

If that kid coming at this point, I imagine he has gotten certain promises
I figure if Tony Delk got 26 minutes per game for those UK teams, even Wilcher will have to understand that Pitino isn’t going to give him carte Blanche minutes.
