Rick’s Targets

Very intrigued by the Meyer kid. I can’t figure out why he’s not a top 50 prospect.
I am too. His High School career was really impressive. I am guessing that these national rankings are largely based on AAU competition or from prep schools that play a national schedule. Meyer seemed to achieve quite a bit playing for his school in the state of Kentucky. I wonder how many of these recruiting services actually watch regular season High School games?

The issue with negatively- not necessarily on this board but from a dozen or so Twitter accounts- is that it serves zero purpose at this stage but to divide the fanbase and cast doubt on Pitino. I'd argue that the frustrations expressed during Mullin and Anderson's third and fourth years were important in letting St. John's leadership know that we were unhappy with the product and wouldn't want a fifth year. Leadership took note and had a game plan ready before the season ended. We got our guy.

Obviously this is week THREE for a HoF coach and there's zero chance Pitino would be fired before year 4 or 5 if he underperforms. Today and for the next couple years he deserves nothing less than patience. There's not even games being played and the vast majority of portal players haven't committed yet, so the negativity is beyond absurd.

IMO the people showing displeasure at this stage are either looking for attention or need to go touch grass. Fortunately the big majority of fans are being rational.

Excellent, well stated!
Thank you!!!

...and better than 99%+ of current college coaches. as well. We lucked out. Just got to be little patient. Don't even think Rick thought he'd have to replace 10 of CMA's players, but we will get there by the end of Spring recruiting, in my view at least. Lol.
He has to replace ten players.
Just could be that CRP loves the thought.
The entire team will be his creation. All his kind of team,
with the exception of Soriano, his Alpha Dog.

He's probably at an Easter dinner and not just drooling
over the thought of the food.

GOOD TIMES ARE THE BEST---SWISH, SWISH, SWISH--Good like Nedicks !

Not to be argumentative at all but most teams do not go more than 10 players deep. Seems to me he needs 7 and not more to have get competitive practices. Louie some seasons had no more than 8 players who played. To be determined.

Perhaps because he didn’t play summer AAU ball and also played at a very small school.
Definitely very small school. Looks like he played a little the summer after his junior year though:

"During the spring and summer, Meyer played for the Indy Heat in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. The team qualified for the Peach Jam national tournament where he averaged 9.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in six games."

So not stud numbers, but I would imagine nice enough depending on who they played and who his teammates were. I've actually heard of Indy Heat, so that's a good sign.

I think we might keep it fairly stripped down (11 total players), hence what seems to be a lot of combo guards being recruited. I could see five kids between the 1, 2, and 3, and two or three bigger kids to swing between the 3, 4 and 5. Smaller roster size works great if no one gets injured, since everyone in the portal is looking for real minutes.

9.5 points is solid but certainly not spectacular. Could he have been double teamed, not start, asked to facilitate the offense as opposed to scoring ?
I have no clue but again those are respectable but not spectacular numbers.
