Breaking: Coca-Cola Set to Acquire Controlling Interest in BodyArmor

https://www.bevnet.com/news/20...to-acquire-controlling-interest-in-bodyarmor/
looking forward to his next venture  " mjmaherjr water- its tastes like an IPA yet its water  " I'll use half the eventual profit towards a newly refurbished arena with air conditioning  :)
Scorched earth interview aside, the guy has now built 3 major brands.   It is a great example of academics not being everything, and a guy who admittedly struggled with school has had a phenomenal career.  Many guys strike gold once, then spend the rest of their careers failing to duplicate that success.   Repole was a driving force behind Vitamin water, then acquired, built up, and flipped Pirate's booty.   Once his contractual non-compete expired, he went back to the beverage market, and hit another home run.  That about as impressive a run as anyone could have, and I suspect he is not done.

For those of you hoping he returns, there is a door open for him should he wish to return with more restraint in the future.

I re-listened to the WFAN interview just now.  Clearly going on public rant to degree he did was wrong, but the passion he has for program was genuine, especially when talking about his love of school, team and early meetings w/ Cragg on what is needed etc.

https://omny.fm/shows/mike-francesa/mike-francesa-with-mike-repole

Hopefully time, and a new president, a priest, can help heal the wounds. Repole might need to be willing to change a bit on approach too, but clearly can be a game changer, monetarily and brand build wise.

Seems he loved Cragg, so hopefully personal relationships built when Cragg first arrived are still warm. Hope an attempt is made sooner than later to see if there is common ground to be had. I

know Beast has said that influence cannot be bought, and $ come first not the other way...but this seems like one situation from an athletic program perspective where it could make sense to explore some level of exceptions apply all can live with, without going against respective core values.

New president, good relationship with AD and positive outlook on program should help garner monetary support from Repole and others

Repole already wealthy, but as Coca-Cola buys him out he could, over time, potentially join the billionaire club.

He already is a billionaire and by far the wealthiest alumnus.

Open line of communication exists.   He would have to exercise self control, but would be welcomed back should he decide to.   I think that he has been proven wrong in his hire assertions, and proven wrong about his assertion about the ineptness of the board.   One of the things that a great leader possesses is the humility to appreciate the talents that other people possess.

About 10 years ago, I needed some professional advice in a realm of expertise and a board member willingly volunteered his time.  He was someone who I did not previously know yet he generously met with me and gave me a couple of hours of advice..   I remember comparing myself unfavorably to someone we both knew who had extraordinary career success.   The board member laughed politely, and said, graciously, "You know, what you've accomplished, that person could never have done. There are all different kinds of talent and success."

I never forgot not only the generosity of this board member, but how much humility he possesses.   That meeting providing me with information that enabled me to make a significant career decision with confidence.   The time was given simply because I was a St. John's alumnus with an expecatation of nothing in return.

I am pretty aware of what some board members have accomplished professionally and also of their many incredibly generous charitable endeavors, both in time, talent, and treasure.   I'm sure Mike Repole is a very good person, and his accomplishments professionally make him an incredible entrepreneur.   That being said, him re-entering the fold he will have to understand that to simillarly contribute time, talent, and treasure, there are limits to his imposing his will on the university community.   As one failed candidate once said, "I have a lot of fences to mend, both literally and figuratively.."   I hope he returns, but it will have to be with the right spirit.

Thanks Beast.

I don't think his assertions on hire were wrong.  Anderson just wasn't in fold at time who was also a Cragg choice.  He seemed to be in favor of Cragg's options.

As for board - He called out Collins, Gemp & Olivia. Collins & Gemp are now eetired and Olivia, I've never seen one good thing posted about.

Hopefully new board chair and Shanley and Cragg can reach out first..

Lets hope restaurants open in warmer weather as Shanley settles in and he and Craig can share a few bottles of vino over a nice bowl of pasta and basket of bread w/ Repole.

The move will be Repole's to make.   Both Bill Janetschek and Mike Cragg know Repole well and his communication with SJU has not totally been cut off.   Repole divorced himself from SJU.   SJU and our fans now are in agreement that CMA is a much better hire than Hurley would have been, and that CMA is here for the long haul - Hurley likely not.    On that point though, had Repole been willing to finance most of the Hurley hire or even a very healthy chunk of it, he may have gotten his way.

Repole was way off base and inappropriate with his public comments. And wrong. In less than two weeks Cragg hired a top quality and well respected coach. The process worked. Sure he may have tried with some different options but the end result was successful. Repole went out there and caused damage. Thankfully Cragg steadied the ship. SJU should be wary aligning with Repole again.

I'm going to guess that Stuart Sternberg, who owns 58% of the Tampa Bay Rays as just one of his holdings is likely wealthier.  Just saying.

A new Coca-Caresecca Arena would be nice
Or the expansion of the Tafner facilities with the Repole Center.

Mr. Repole's privacy should be respected.  He will donate as he believes is appropriate.

The one thing you can control is your own giving to St. John's athletics which we are each able to do.

Hopefully President Shanley will soon kick off a capital fundraising campaign to demolish, renovate, or improve Carnesecca for which we will all have an opportunity to show our own generosity.

Otis - all fair points but their is no disrespect to his privacy or posters trying to get in touch with him.

He made his charity public and went on WFAN on his own and vocalized his past donations (ex. Founder's Society = $1M+), connections at the top and potential interest in supporting the program even further if act was together. These are $ many may not earn in years or a lifetime.
