Repole on the radio

Clearly Repole went too far. It was way too emotional and it hurt his credibility. And to what end? Now none of the mid major guys with options even want to interview. He may have destroyed the program. He came off like a Mike Show caller. I’m not saying he’s lying and certainly a lot of what he said is true, but these two items you note don’t seem credible.
Sad. Is Oliva a friend? Must be or someone close to him/on the board. Repole didnt go too far clown. The President, BOT and Oliva have gone too far for far too long. Good for him for exposing this damn circus on a big platform. It's not a tiny issue it's a huge, incompetent issue.
What Repole did reflects badly on everyone, including him. Before he went on the air we had candidates. Now we have mid major coaches turning down the opportunity to even interview. Clown? Really? Because I have an opinion? What are you 12? You’re a real tough guy on the Internet aren’t you. I’ll be happy to stop posting. I’ve been a fan of the program since the late 70s. Met coach Carnesecca twice. No connection at all to the Board or anyone else.

Hell no. He needed to set the narrative straight because most fans don't know what's going on. Screw these assholes getting in the way, this is 100% on them.

Mid-majors turned down the job BEFORE the interview. Is Loyola-Chicago even a mid-major?! No it probably is not. How does what he did in that interview reflect poorly on him? He was giving the program a blank check to get the job right. They failed. That's ineptness. That's gross negligence. And it's better coming from the man's mouth himself than from guys on here just assuming!

Everybody-Catch your Breath!
Too many emotions boiling over for a wounded school we all love. Pretty much we are powerless, except to express our feelings and opinions, and withhold financial support to the school or program.
Let's try to keep our posts civil.

I think Mike Repole addressed a lot more than basketball, on the air yesterday. St. John's for a very long time has looked like a Ma and Pa operation. He is speaking passionately about basketball but you could apply his comments to the way the entire school is run.
We have a major university being run without accountability by a board of yes men. They have built little cliques within that board. They want the school to operate quietly without any waves. Obviously, the board has members inserting themselves in areas they have no business with. for example, Joe Oliva circumventing the authority that should lie with Mike Cragg alone. They refuse to delegate power or authority to anyone but themselves. This kind of conduct makes the university run quietly, but in a manner that may retard the growth of the university itself., because there is a failure of accountability and overview. I think this is a failure of President himself who should be the ultimate authority, As a result, we have an Athletic Director who is little more than a puppet for the board. That is not fair to the AD and certainly does nothing for the enhance the functioning of the athletic department.
So when Repole went public yesterday, he was shining a light on the failure of the board and it's President as he spoke about our basketball crisis.

In terms of context, was Repole even correct about how this process was being executed?

In a few hours while all of us were happy thinking the worst, whomever were the architects of Andersen's hire were busy closing in on what appears to be a rock solid hire.

Granted the optics were miserable but Repole's very pubic rant should destroy the myth that he was the money behind SJU's coaching search.

Look, we got as good a coach as we could have hoped for but if you want to talk about “behind the scenes” talk about who eventually guided Cragg through this maze, Coach K and Cragg’s Duke contacts. The truth is Cragg never hired a coach in his life and was stumbling. Kudos to him for figuring it out and getting advice when needed, nothing wrong in the least with that. Glad he did for sure but your intimation that all is well in SJU land is nonsense. Knock Repole all you want but a ton of what he said is true and no doubt in my mind it helped, the administration was pushing for Jones after begging and pseudo-bribing Moser to accept..

I was raised to believe that you don't air your dirty laundry in Public. Whatever is going on in your house, you try to resolve it. There is no need to stand in the middle of the street and shout it out to the world.

To me, what Repole did was extremely self serving. In essence, he found a platform and then stated, I am a graduate, I am rich, and they should be listening to me. Since they are not, I am going to blow them up. This is his ego talking. If he was truly concerned about them low balling Bobby Hurley, make up the difference. If not, STFU.

As for Mike Anderson, if you look at all of the coaches the school reached out to, he is probably the most experienced and successful. Sometimes you win by losing!!!!!

I agree it was self serving and I generally agree with your feelings about dirty laundry but the fact is resolving within house hasn’t resulted in a change of culture for decades. As for Hurley, if he was low balled how did he parley that into another raise and extension after just receiving one? I guess ASU is as frivolous spending money as we are tight in not. I could not agree more concerning Mike Anderson.

Are you saying his $10 million offer to renovate CA is not happening? I was counting on that being added to Francesca's pledge, making it a grand total of $10 mm

While Repole spoke, I hated Francesa's smug half laughs, and him saying "I withdrew from the school ten years ago before Fr. h and all those troubles", is a joke.

Repole is one guy who has put his money up, Francesa is something else. Francesa has never done much for the school in my opinion before or after he "withdrew", and I heard his emcee at the Waldorf was a disaster.

I guess Repole either does not know of Francesa's background with the school or doesn't care.

+ 1,000 I am glad someone said it finally. This look at me interview was self serving and did nothing to help the school that Repole claims he loves so much. The guy is a billionaire and didn't have the juice to get Danny here or the funds to enhance the " lowball offer" ? Spot on post Panther

Thank you both. Mike F was the only winner here.

The Sports Pope is a blowhard. Repole loves SJU and the basketball program. He bleeds red literally and figuratively. Quite different..
