Rebuild Time Frame

The thing about a "time frame" is its completely dependent on the devolopment and also ability of the recruits.

If Ahmed, Ponds, and Lovett, are way better or worse than expected, it changes how quick the rebuild is.

Also, no one knows what kind of jumps Mussini, Sima, Yakwe, Ellison, hell even Williams will make next year in terms of improvement

Honestly, people are saying it took lavin 4 years to rebuild the roster. Not really. The roster we had DLo's sophomore year could've made the tournament in today's big east and if DLo didn't get suspended. And then DLos third year, that team was one of the most talented we've had in a long time here, that team not going far had nothing to do with rebuilding, that was just a dissapointment and honestly a choke job by the players and coaches.

Woulda coulda shoulda. If I remember correctly, the team was not headed in the direction of a bid when DLO got suspended, and the suspension sealed it. Yes, that team choked on many golden opportunities. We are in hell or at least purgatory as SJU fans, and many of us have chosen the Jets and Mets to root for as well.

Team was 16-11 when he was suspended. 3 regular season games left. Lost all 3. Providence by 3, ND by 26 and Marquette by 2.

Then obviously lost to Nova in BET

Yea, we were on the bubble when he got suspended.

I'm just trying to point out that we don't have to have the mindset that 4 years from now we will be rebuilt. It can be done faster and I honestly believe with the talent we have coming in and the potential our freshmen have shown this year, the rebuild WILL happen faster

If you looked at what was ahead of us, with the unlikely proposition of having to win all three to get an at large bid, to me at least, it looks like Lavin saw the writing on the wall, and sacked Harrison, killing the team's chances. While a bid was a possibility, winning each of those three games (again, to me at least) was remote. Mathematically possible, but not likely.

Hope you are right. Another example is that it took Jay Wright until his 4th season to get to dance - they've only missed once since. I'd rather plan on seeing progressively better basketball, and not expect too much until then. Obviously anything can happen especially when it comes to recruiting.

This is silly to debate about cause it's so long ago, but with Harrison we beat Providence and Marquette, and then a win against nova in the BET could've gotten it done. And nova was not the nova we know now that year, they were ok

We should know by year 3 how the roster looks. That will be the core of years 4 and 5.

This should be a tourney team next yr

Your proposed starting lineup is 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and a guy who's never played college ball before.

You can't say with full confidence that they should be a tournament team

that team is very small

Offensively that team without him was putrid. I remember posting it was among the 10 worst in D1. As Jack said we win the Prov and Marquette games and get a different draw in BET. 18-12 going into BET. We were in bracketologies leading up. It happened its done with.

Crazy part if we made 1 more NCAA under Lavin I think he's still here. That year or the year after.

You can't say with full confidence that they should be a tournament team

that team is very small

add Thon Maker to the list and what do you say then?

Honestly I'd suggest not putting Thon in any of our projected lineups. It's just such a long shot at this point I wouldn't want anyone getting too excited. And I know he visited this week and I'm happy about it and hopeful, but still not holding my breath

I agree. Like Jack said ,it's a long shot of them committing. Then throw in the odds of them qualifying. IMO there is no point in talking about this dream lineup. I like Lovett, Ponds, Bashir, Yakwe and Sima. Regarding size, the guards are small, but Bashir,Yakwe, and Sima have descent size ,height wise. Now strength maybe a different story.
