Your proposed starting lineup is 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and a guy who's never played college ball before.

You can't say with full confidence that they should be a tournament team

Not to mention 2 guys that have not committed to us, one of which most likely won't.

In fairness he did not say what tournament

Mullin year 4

I don't really agree with this either. Yakwe, Sima, Ellison, Mussini all as juniors. Ahmed will have a year under his belt. Ponds a sophomore, probably some high quality freshmen. Year 3 we will be legit. So I agree with the article basically.

If that roster materializes, I think that is a realistic expectation. Why should it be only our players that take 3 or 4 years to develop? It shouldn't. Many freshman and sophomores produce and make immediate or quick impacts. No guarantees, but a reasonable expectation.

You don't have to agree, as obviously it's anyone's guess. I'd rather be surprised than disappointed. It's hard to build a team from ashes.

The thing no one seems to understand is that the teams that are much better than us will also retool and have a lot less further to go than us. This is a process and it will take some time. Predicting outrageous things only hurts the Mullin cause and emboldens the haters to complain.

I turn 46 in 3 weeks ( pretty weird since I started posting here when I was 29 or 30 ) and I'm just hoping we are rebuilt before I turn 50

Agree. Any chance you will be married by 50? :) Just thinking of your gift.

Haaa. Yeah good chance :)

Here is something even crazier. Nathalie has been with me through the Norm years and the Lavin years and maybe part of Jarvis I think

She should be nominated for Sainthood

PJCarlissimo and Mike K (spelling of surname to much of a challenge) took years - plural - years to get their programs going AND they inherited far better situations.

Every reason to be patient and "cut the staff some slack"! Chris Mullin & Co started with NOTHING and already have built SOMETHING
and added brightness to the Redmen horizon.

all the best.

She's great. You are lucky to have her - and lucky Rico didn't make a move :)

Really great call. Coach K inherited a good program from Bill Foster (who just passed away last week at 86), and didn't make the dance until his 4th year.

Trust me I am very impatient, always watching big games on TV with those exciting atmospheres, and saying when will this be us. Damn I want those days back in Queens.
Now reality: We probably won't be all the way back next year. I'm not saying that it won't be exciting and fun and we'll see glimpses of what's about to come. Maybe 17 or 18 wins next year. Maybe the nit?

Yeah patients sucks and hate always saying next year but it is what it is.

Yeah but Coach K's first recruiting class in 1983 included Johnny Dawkins, Mark Alarie, David Henderson and Jay Bilas. Tommy Amaker came in 1984. His team made the tournament for the first time at the end of the 1986 season. Those first guys were seniors. So, when St. John's coaching staff starts pulling players of that caliber, then we can compare how quickly the team makes a run in the tournament. I suspect it will be shorter than 4 years.

Great research. Foster left him with seniors, which is pretty good. As an FYI, Coach K has made the tournament every year since I believe.
