Rasheem Dunn Waiver Denied (APPEAL WON)

This is beyond ridiculous. Two things. 1) It’s time for the conference to step up. We have been a loyal member since inception. We never wavered in our commitment to the Big East, while others were jumping ship. Even more important, we have delivered revenue to the league, based upon our huge market. It’s time for them to immediately get involved on our behalf.
2) NCAA? Screw them. Let’s partner with the state legislature on all legislative efforts for player rights, including pay. Perhaps other AD’s across the state will grow a pair and join us. It can serve as a model for other states and schools nationwide.

St. John's guard Rasheem Dunn would lose a year of eligibility if the decision is not overturned, source says. #sjubb[/quote]

That’s horrible. Definitely time to get lawyers involved.

And experienced ones ala firm that won Orlando Sanchez appeal, although a prolonged process.

Total BS--not only would have to sit out 2 years (last and this) but would lose one year of playing as he would only be allowed to play next year (his 5th year). I hope some lawyers will step up and take this a a pro-bono case for Rasheem and sue the NCAA and Cleveland State and its AD for hurting his potential to practice his trade--Cleveland State opted to change coaches, their choice; the athlete should have the same option, especially after sitting out a year. This is like indentured servitude on C State's part--they do not own Rasheem. Sue the pants off of them and scares any other POS AD/school that tries this crap in the future.

Any idea how long the appeal would take? Seems doubtful before the start of the season.

The NCAA should be looking after the interests of the so called student athlete. How the hell does this help Dunn? He already sat out a year! Duke had athletes taking phoney courses at the local YMCA; other big time programs have done worse, and WE get penalized! How do we put a stake through the heart of the NCAA??

It's patently ridiculous for the NCAA to base it's decision on the 'fact' that Dunn could've stayed at Cleveland State IF he had wanted to: what the hell does THAT mean?
Haven't recent NCAA decisions allowed kids to transfer with immediate eligibility IF their coach is fired or leaves before Summer or Fall Classes begin?
What school wouldn't want a key player to stay for the next regime?!? That's equals no choice for Rasheem or any athlete in that predicament.
And the kid already sat out a year.
A stunningly dumb, illogical, and unfair decision.
It must be overturned.
As Paultz says: "Let the media blitz begin."

if the President of Cleveland State got fired and the POS Athletic Director wanted to take a job at another school even though he had a job would he sit out a year before taking the job ? Fucking embarrassing this guy is and the NCAA

The NCAA just keeps piling it on this kid
I wonder if they consider how they would react if Dunn were their own son
They'd be kicking and screaming bloody murder
This is unjust and unbelievable!!

While it is an absolutely BS decision, and I feel for Dunn as a player and as a young man, I cannot support many of the poster's comments that we constantly are getting screwed over by the NCAA.

Look, we constantly play the transfer game, and have done so for a long time now. Either by choice or necessity, it is the approach the school/coaches have chosen. When you take that route, you are more susceptible to decisions that don't go in your favor. It's the nature of the beast. If we hadn't been so dependent on transfers, we wouldn't be in this situation.

I think it is about the apparent subjectivity of these decisions as opposed to other similar cases. And the resultant inequity to the affected kid. Seems like different rules for different schools and kids. No level playing field and no overriding policy to consistently do what’s best for the kids

THE REALLY IRONIC AND SAD PART is that Cleveland St. has been the tagline of NCAA jokes for several decades about the inequality and arbitrary nature of how the NCAA treats athletes and schools. (usually goes along the lines of 'UNC commits a violation, NCAA ruling Punish Cleveland St.')

Earlier today St. John’s fans learning of the fate of Rasheem Dunn while at a Diner in LIC Queens.

People should blow up Scott Garrett’s Twitter about this!! Preposterous decision. Kid already sat out and his coach was fired. I thought the ncaa just made rulings to make it easier for players to transfer when teams fired coaches?

Agree, time to hire lawyer... for both Dunn and Steere.

The NCAA never ceases to amaze me. From all accounts, Dunn has tried to do all the right things.

The schools, coaches and administrators can all look after their own interests without question, while the student-athlete is squeezed by the NCAA's bizarre rulebook.

I hope SJU fights for these kids -- not just for our season, but for protecting the rights of the athletes.

I think it's time for some of you on twitter to figure out who Cleveland state is recruiting and let those kids know via twitter that there are better places to play than that place.

Disappointed, yes, surprised, no as we are talking about the NCAA.

Although it is a totally different situation, I am sure there are some UConn fans saying it’s Karma due to our AD not supporting Sid Wilson’s waiver. But again it is a totally different situation and Wilson only sat a year and maintained his four years of eligibility.

Again he now has to sit out another year and he loses a year to boot. NCAA is a joke.
