Providence, Sat. Mar. 4, Noon, FS2/970AM

Man some of you have a very short memory when it comes remembering who Dom was as a player his first 3 years here, and what was said about him by our fan base. The guy was chastised mercilessly. Now I'm not suggesting that Malik will become the player that Dom became as a senior, all I'm saying is that if he does comes back I think he can have a useful roll here for his last 2 years.

I called Dom I poor man's Michael Jordan after watching a few of his HS all star games and I realize he didn't for fill his potential until his senior year but i wouldn't allow Malik to shag balls during warm ups because he would probably foul our guys and maybe cause an injury. Sorry if it seems like i am coming down extra hard on Malik but the talk about positives about his game is pushing me to extremes. He has been nothing short of a disaster this season and my fear is next season he will eat up minutes of more talented players because our coach seems to have a fascination with him. It would be like playing Gino Lawrence over Eric Barkley the next two seasons if he continues playing the way he has been and Mo continues to play him.

I don't recall Donald Emanuel ever having much potential or anything clicking with him. He couldn't have averaged more than five or six points a game as a senior. I recall he devolved a mediocre outside shot his last couple of years, which he had no business taking as a big.

Yes okay, excellent point in reference to that thing I mentioned parenthetically - that some player from 20 years ago might have been marginally better or worse than I described him as being and to the extent that I made a vague point you might have refuted it. Good point you f'ing genius. Anything else you want to discuss?

Short and sweet. Don't understand those of you who say we had nothing to play for (ie. because we were locked into the 8th seed in the BET as if that means diddly). When you are where we are you should just be trying to win as many games as possible. Lastly, Fun, I think you could make excuses for a doctor if he left his lunch pail in his patient's abdominal cavity.

I'm as frustrated as anyone with Malik's play, Mostly with his playing like he thinks he's "the man", and his decisions with the ball in his hands. I'd also like to see him go hard after a loose ball every now and then. However statistically his stats are very close to Sir Dom's stats at the end of his soph year. And there were many on this board who were calling for Sir Dom to transfer right up until his senior year. Some kids take longer than others to develop. Maybe Malik transfers out after this year, but if he returns I am not about to write him off . Hopefully he comes back a much improved ballplayer with a better understanding of his strengths and weaknesses. And hopefully CM will find a roll best suited for his skill sets and size, with him swinging between the 2 and 3. The one postition I hope to never see him play again is PG. Again, not giving up on the kid just yet.

Monte, most on this board called for Sir Dom to transfer? How about everyone on the board wanted him to transfer.

And this is a guy who ended up our top ten all time lists in at least two categories while carrying his team to a NCAA bid his senior season.

Ellison will make his decision and do what is right for himself. He knows what is ahead for him more than any of us. Our coaches seem to look out for the players more than most do.

As a fan with high expectations for Simon I think there's a good chance that Ellison sees a future with more playing time elsewhere

If he leaves or stays I'm grateful he came here. We needed him these past two seasons

We'll know in a month or so.

May need Ellison

If that's the case they we are not going to be as good as we all had hoped we would next year. Improvement sure but we will still be held back.

I wasn't comparing their potential coming out of high school, or their athletic ability. And right now Malik doesn't look like he can play on a D3 team. However, as Fun said, if a light bulb can go on in Malik's brain, and if the staff can figure out how to use him situationally and not overuse him, I still see enough in him to think that he can contribute here.

We beat Providence handily next year , if we get a front court stud somewhere.. Maybe a 5th year player... has to have some ability in major facets of game, not deficiencies
Actually Providence will be one of the best teams in the conference next year. They are a junior laden team this year and will be even better next year.

They do not have any 6'10" guys but, other than the PG (Cartwright) are all 6'6' - 6'7" and built like men.

Maybe we got all the bad shooting out of our system today and come BET we will be red hot

If a light bulb were to go on in Malik's head he may become as smart as Uncle Fester but he will not be a better basketball player.

Eliison has made either 1 shot or zero shots in 12 games this season. I only see hime with 2 solid games with both over 20. He seems to make more and more poor decisions and is also a liability on defense. I know this team has a bunch of holes and they are young, but all the talk was how Ellison was much improved and would be a difference maker. For a kid with his size and athletic ability, I would classify him as this years biggest disappointment. Zero pressure on him this year compared to Yakwe who has been asked to play out of position. Every game I find myself saying..."Get Ellison out of there". Is it just me with a short fuse?
Needs room and time to shoot. If it's not there, his already awkward shooting form breaks down.

Not ending the season well. Don't have a good feeling about the game on wednesday

What is last 5 1-4. When the games really mattered others stepped up.

Missed the game today it appears I saved myself some aggravation Look we can not have a good feeling about any game we play You get what you put in. You put in non big east talent this is what you get Coach is on the clock next yr i for one do not want to give him past next yr if we do not produce a ncaa team He was suppose to take this program to the next level !st yr gave him a ride 2nd yr yes we improved if you call it that Yes we won 7 games but we were pitiful in most next yr his leash is very short think if nothing happens we have to start thinking replacement The money is is getting by next yr we should be NCAA bound That would be the only reason to keep his contract If you were hired by a CO that was paying you 2-3 mill a yr they would want results fast You could not tell your boss give me 3-4 yrs and I will produce
He will absolutely get more than next year and deserves it. Norm got 6 and we are not going to give CM at least 4?

The barometer for next year will be improvement and recruiting. If we get the recruits, there will be no questions.

Despite frustrations with Malik's lackadaisical play, I see the potential and want him back in a well defined role.

That said, is there something underlying your response? Are you hearing further rumors that we are losing someone?

Where were our fans today? Only 8800 in building and there must have been at least 4,000 Providence fans today.

Extremely surprised about the lack of support received today after pretty strong crowds all year.
Are students on break?

Very disappointing, lackluster, lazy performance today. Hard to listen to "Let's go Friars chants" but they gave us absolutely zero to cheer for Fromm start to finish.

That said, while he didn't have one of his better games, Ponds is a magician around the rim.Amazing finisher in traffic.

No, just no sense in writing him off now.

OK, good. And, agree. He can still be good.

Anyone who compares Ellison favorably to Dom Pointer's first three years knows nothing about basketball talent. Pointer was a better defensive player than Ellison on his worst day. He could outplay Ellison defensively running backwards on one leg. Offensively, Pointer was a disappointment during his first three years, but he was light years ahead of Ellison on hustle alone.

The two extra students that might have attended were both sick today unfortunately.
