Providence (MSG), Sat., Feb. 1, 12 NOON, CBSSN

Prey has been coming along nicely. Why he didn’t see much time today doesn’t make any sense.

A win is a win but plenty to learn from the game tape.
I agree. I would much prefer seeing Prey than Vince. Except for Vince's move and layup at the end of the game, he reacts too slowly in the lane to bring anything positive to the table.

It was halfway thru the second half, up 19, and I said well, we should put in Vince, Prey and Glover here.

Rick did just that (minus Prey) and that unit promptly gave back 10 points.

So he put the starters back in and I figured that would stop the bleeding but instead Providence just kept hitting shots.

All the moves were the right ones, it just blew up on us. As you say, weird. A "stuff happens" situation. Everything was according to plan until then.
Please never lump Prey in with Vince.
Vince is completely lost at all times and has no ability to control his limbs. Prey is always in control.

A game we so often lost in the past, but we didn’t and I am no less proud or confident about this crew. Pitino has done a masterful job maximizing defensive consistency despite being “the gang that couldn’t shoot straight.”

Tuesday should be a tough one, but our guys are that, very, very tough.

Please never lump Prey in with Vince.

I am neither as high on Prey nor as down on Vince as most. I think they are both potential contributors but both have more work to do on adjusting to the speed of the game and their respective vulnerabilities.

I think Vince is more situation-dependent, as in there are guys you can play him against and guys you can't. But despite his ungainliness he has touch around the rim and from the line, recovers well for blocks (no argument it would be better if he didn't have to recover in the first place) and runs the floor better than Prey.

Prey plays the 5 much more solidly and is much better with the ball. And has become a very good defender in spots.

Did Providence bring many fans? I’m kind of blown away by this. I’ve been skeptical that there was a “hidden” fanbase waiting for a decent product to show up. Very happy to have been wrong.
They had their usual contingent of alums who are from downstate. I don't know how many. Like last year, they were a morgue for most of the game until Rahim went nuts and then they got loud at times.

Put it this way, with 6 or so minutes left, you wouldn't have known they were there. And then they were loud.

To me the story today was, you can be a good team with stars like Richmond, Zuby and RJ. But to be great you need your other key rotation guys to contribute as well

we were all happy to see smith back, but IMO he really really hurt us today. Him and Wilcher combine for 3-20 on the day. Scott had his worst day probably all year too.

What’s huge for us going forward is figuring how to get Wilcher and smith looks that are good looks for them. Smith should improve as he gets more comfortable being back out there. Wilcher we need to see if we can get him curling off some screens, preferably around the elbow. These threes are front rimming.

Happy with the win. Kadary is the man
Wilcher had a ton of good looks. He just missed
