Providence (MSG), Sat., Feb. 1, 12 NOON, CBSSN

First, first posting a picture of Zuby and one of my identical twin daughters. He really is a nice kid. He came over to her even before he saw the sign. He's the type of kid that you want representing your program.
I would make sure what the legal age to marry is in Zuby's native country.

Just kidding. Zuby is a super kid and whenever i give him crap am reminded that he is naturally shy around adults. Really a well raised terrific young man. Family in the house again today.

On the train back to D.C. after one of the more stressful games of the season. Not necessary to echo many of the insightful comments that have already been posted, but will just add a handful of comments:

1. Providence's run started with its back-up center (Priest) scoring a basket and being awarded an "and one." The refs had somehow just missed his blatantly traveling through the lane. Very frustrating.

2. Largely for better, but every once-in-a-while for worse, RJ has ice in his veins. He is clearly not scared to take key shots at key moments -- including a couple of jumpers in the second half this evening.

3. Prior to Deivon's injury, one of the many things that made him such a pivotal member of this team was that his fearlessness, combined with his never-ending motor, made him almost unstoppable in the open-court. It's very understandable, but it appeared (at least to me) that his regaining that fearlessness is a work-in-progress.

4. While Marquette is good, I believe that SJU is better, for several reasons. One key component is that I don't really believe that they will have an effective answer in stopping Zuby, i.e., mu future son-in-law. Ha!

Go Johnnies!!!

Give Providence credit. They never give up and have lost some very close games.
Imagine they would have been a better team had their star player not been lost for the season.
Two years in a row.

Last year Carter and the big kid covered up mistakes.

They shoot it pretty well.

Some Friars fans I know have been critical English's use of Abdur-Rahim this season, not playing him enough in their view. He was one of a number of transfers they brought in that people were high on.

Pierre runs hot and cold. He's much more of a 2-guard trapped in a 1s body IMO.

Very very lucky . Not a great stretch in last 10 minutes .
But , Win is Win . Can’t give up 3’s to Marquette like we did today.
Scott , Smith. Wilcher had poor games . Smith has sort of a excuse .
I still don’t think Smith on the Court with KR is our best lineup.
Not lucky at all…should we have won going away? Yes as these teams aren’t remotely close in talent…they hit a bunch of long 3s (kudos) but our players never lost composure…we won and deserved to win

Re: #1:

The officiating in this game stunk, plain and simple. It stunk equally for both teams, but it still stunk.

They were very long 3s
It was a combination. We clearly didn't do what Pitino wanted at all times on the defensive-end, a rarity for this group.

And Rahim also hit low percentage 3s he doesn't make normally. Timely too. A close W could have easily been double digits in this one, as it seemed to be with about 7 minutes left.

One thing I've noticed the past few games is that Zuby is getting absolutely tackled by teams trying to keep him off the offensive glass. It seems the refs let that play more in the first half than the second, but if I'm sure Pitino and others are making that known to officials.

Annoyed me in the first half when it occurred a few times and then Scott got called for a clean block the other way.

Damn you taught your daughter well about NIL

Refs missed 3-second violations on PC's Bigs. I counted 5-6 seconds in the zone most of the time they were playing down low.

I will say though, it was a different Providence crowd than the past few years. Much less belligerent. They expected to lose. Clear it was family and friend alum groups that do this annually and probably bought the tickets way in advance.
