My thinking is that if they are nursing Heron through the season, giving him Sunday off may be enough to give this a go tonight.

Not to put a damper on things to feed the evil here (JK), but we could actually finish 8th if we drop the last 3 games. Without a doubt a must win game at home.

Discount the 7 straight. We had bad teams Mullin's 1st three years (when you throw in Lovett's pre Big East season departure) and Xavier was pretty good in that period.

Xavier is the only Big East team that Mullin does not have at least one win against. Yes, he beat Providence once in year 2, and Saturday's win over Seton Hall was actually his second (should have been his third). He broke the Creighton hex this year, so Xavier's the only one left.

Sorry to be wrong on this;

Zagoria;
.@Kingheron5 won’t play tonight for @StJohnsBBall. Plans to play vs. DePaul.

Makes sense. Gives him a week and a half to rest up, and then another 5 days rest in between Depaul and Xavier.

Really sucks to be on the doorstep of the ncaa tourney and have to have this happen to Heron I’m worried about his availability in both the big east and ncaa tourney it’s not like his tendinitis is just going to magically go away. Makes tonight’s game tougher now but I still think we take care of business tonight!

It is what it is. At least we are at CA where we play well and maybe yesterday's Post article will inspire Figgy to have a big game along with Shamorie & Marvin. Also looking for Keita to build off solid game against the Hall. We can still beat Xavier at home, but won't be easy for sure w/o Mustapha's muscle underneath.

Now Rothstein chimes in to contrary ??
St. John's Mustapha Heron (knee) will be a game-time decision for tonight's game against Xavier, per Chris Mullin. #SJUBB

Glad I don’t gamble

He's probably just repeating what Zach B reported yesterday. That would be my guess.

Ok. Fingers crossed. IT is what it is. Everyone has been clamoring for Mullin to use more bench. We got nice play from Williams, Earlington (big surprise), Josh Roberts is a human eraser, and Keita nailed a couple of jumpers.

If we go far in tourney, we are going to need a bench and without this injury each of those guys would see limited or no daylight.

Hope for the best!

Considering Heron's questionable status during the week I was surprised that the odds makers didn't take the game off the board.

They've definitely improved their games', no question about it (Earlington especially).

However, Seton Hall really only had two big guys. Mamu (not going to spell the rest of his name) seemed more comfortable on the perimeter then inside (he blew a couple of easy layups), and although Gil played 20 minutes in the game, he does not appear to be able to play long stretches. So, they were not as disadvantaged going into that game.

That being said, after Saturday's game, they've earned the right to see what they can do against a bigger, more physical team.

It is what it is. Never fails with this program to have something like this happen. An injury to a hugely important player when it's a must win game. This is a must win game because the next two are on the road against teams that on paper we don't match up well against. Shamorie hasn't had a huge Shamorie type game in a while, we need one tonight. We need him to be the best player on the court tonight without a doubt. Fingers crossed.

Also, Xavier has two guys out, too (though, one of them's been gone for awhile). That also usually affects the lines.

Obviously, you did not watch Saturday's game. Ponds was the best player on the court that night, by a country mile.

Agreed, but I'm talking about a Duke or Villanova type game that he had last year. I agree though, he was the best player on the floor against Seton Hall. I just think we might need even more from him tonight against a hot team like Xavier.

Well, the key would be the same as on Saturday. He needs to get off to a good start scoring-wise. That frees things up for everybody else.

Was very worried about this matchup all week as evidenced by my posts in this thread. Heron being out sucks. But believe it or not I predict the johnnies take this one.

Call me crazy but I think we lose this one and win the one on the road. Seems we've played with most urgency when are backs are against the wall.
