·       Web Release QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2021) – With a nine-day break between BIG EAST contests, the St. John’s men’s basketball team has scheduled its one remaining non-conference outing, as the Red Storm will welcome Utah Valley University to Carnesecca Arena on Saturday at 4 p.m.
 
good to see them get a game in.....should help to keep them fresh (and hopefully rest Posh and Williams)

Probably had to pay a nice amount to get them to travel.  CMA pushing to keep his winning season streak alive and recruting talking point.... lol.

Yup, great to get a game in and keep mthe momentum going.  Would have been nice to see a local slotted in (Hofstra??), but this is fine.

Parfenthetically, even a team like this has bigs bigger than ours (I think I counted at least 4 guys 6'9" or better - lol).

There some type of connection I'm not seeing? seems like a strange opponent to pick up given the plethora of schools within 3+hr driving distance.... I also do not think this is a gimme game at all. 

Hopefully our guys come to play from the jump.

At this stage of the game not sure how many teams haven't played their 7th OOC game since thats the limit.  So that's the first impediment.  Also we have a finite window to play the game.  Take what you can get at that point I think.

FWIW Coached by Mark Madsen ... Stanford double grad, 2-time All-American, 2-time NBA champ, Stanford and Lakers Asst coach. A mix of transfers and Utah HS recruits.  Don't think this is a walkover.
 
 
Very surprised that our coach who is very concerned about this deadly pandemic has no problem letting kids fly cross country to play a meaningless game.

Im surprised no one is calling him out on this.
 
what makes it any different than Butler, Creighton, Depaul etc. flying in ?    We're probably paying for their charter plane anyway.

Once the league and schools, made a decision to play, it really doesn't matter who or how far.  If we are really concerned, we should equally question playing BE schools that have been hit one or multiple times and had to pause.

becasue theose are conference games RedstormNC.  They have to be played.  You know that.

Coach has banged on how dangerous this pandemic is and how important it is to keep the kids safe and is now playing a meaningless game and having a team fly cross country.  What if the kids from utah get sick? 

You cant have it both ways.  Coach should get crushed for this but as we all know, no one will say a peep.

Not true. You're making a peep now. And by the way, people are flying every day now and some say it's probably safer on a plane becuase of the steps airlines have taken and the fresh air being circulated inside the cabin.
