Chris Mullin on Greg Williams: "I'm confident he'll play a good role for us." #sjubb
The more I see of Greg Williams, the more I think that he will be useful down the road
Agree. I see a Postell like progression in next few seasons,
I like him better than both Trimble and Dixon but you need Trimble's D and Dixon's outside shooting off the bench
...Sarah Kustok where she mentioned that Mullin said he does not have the team run plays. He prefers the non conference time for the team to gel and be free flowing but will introduce plays now that conference is beginning. I wasn't quite sure how to react to that honestly.
No plays doesn't mean lack of offense or sets, nor does it = freestyle. There is clearly an offense and the guys have gotten better at it the first 12 games. Look at the spacing on breaks and in the half court as well as the (intuitive passing not only by Ponds) and you can see these guys have put in work and repetition and are doing some things really well. The movement is outstanding at times and these guys react to changing defenses better than any St. John's team that I can remember.

For the first time in awhile, there's 'talent' on the court in 5 SJU uniforms.

Pumped for this game! I've gone to the Rock twice to watch SJU and both times I left disappointed. First time was when Lavin got tossed and I believe Hazell went for like 40, the second was Lavins last season which also resulted in a loss. Hoping SJU fans travel for this one.

Not trying to be argumentative here but what does no plays mean then exactly?

I wasn't either. I remember when she said that. I'm not sure that she said they don't run any plays but either way I believe the distinction is that a drawn play has specific steps with a specific result or an even more traditional model with the coach calling out numbers to the point guard who then calls it out to the team. You could argue that what our guys do with screens, over the defense lobs etc are "plays" but I think she is distinguishing this approach from the more traditional or even the pick and roll. Is that a play? Yes it is. Well, or no it isn't. Depends upon how you distinguish it.

Our offense is not about running specific plays. It is about constantly misdirecting the defense to exploit opportunities that come about from this and taking the most efficient of these. That is both more complicated and more simplistic than running set plays. It also has a higher potential ceiling depending upon how smart our guys play and they can get better at it game by game.
Not sure if this is the best place to post this but figured it's getting eyeballs and curious people's take.

I watch most if not all games. Many on DVR however after the fact so fast forwarding and often not paying attention to the pathetic announcers often assigned to our games. I haven't heard this mentioned prior on the boards and was wondering if it was the first time it was mentioned.

But did anyone catch the beautiful easy on the eyes and also actually good analyst Sarah Kustok where she mentioned that Mullin said he does not have the team run plays. He prefers the non conference time for the team to gel and be free flowing but will introduce plays now that conference is beginning. I wasn't quite sure how to react to that honestly.
I thought the first part rang true but called BS on the second part.

But seriously I agree with pretty much all of Paul's analysis.

That’s what I thought ,I live in so fl and have Comcast but when I scroll to 8:30 on channel 402 it is not there

Our offense is one of the best and most efficient in the Big East right now. We run an entire team of players that can all shoot to range, with strong skill sets across the board. Not many teams have that. Let’s just watch it work. Defense we can still get better. If we play defense with purpose and intensity, it will determine our overall success.

As far as the Seton Hall game goes, I Hope Ponds continues to let the game come to him and push for assists in the first half without trying to do too much. Second half, I wanna see him ramp up to what we all expect and the rest of our guys should be running smooth by that point. Gonna be a fun game, but I’d really like to see us “beat the brakes” off of them per Marillac’s terms. Would be great to have our first game in Big East play be a strong and decisive win on the road.

Yeah I’d take that too... it’d give me anxiety watching it though, although I suppose it will anyway...
The game is sold out which I'm sure is due to us being undefeated.
they should open up the top half of the arena then it would be truly sold out.

Ah I didn't realize they only sell the lower bowl. People are calling out Zach B about this in his tweet.

Edit: The lower bowl is 10,353 seats so that is still a decent sized crown. The upper deck adds about 6,000 more seats.
