I really hope this is the year we finally get out to a fast start in conference play. Kills us every yr with these 1-5 starts.
That's why I really haven't been into these ooc games, last 2 years we did good in ooc only to suck beginning the b m
E.
After tonight I really start getting into the season.

Seton Hall has basically been playing 7 guys the past 3 games. There's no way that's going to fly considering how much full court pressure we'll put on them.
In theory, yes...but how many times have we seen depth play no role in helping us getting beat by teams with a 6 man rotation? I think the whole tiring out thing is a bit overrated...we usually look just as tired as the opponent, depth or not.
There's no doubt it should be in our favor. It also looks like our pressure has ramped up so far this year due to more depth. Assuming they also get in some sort of foul trouble, it's really going to be tough just going 7 deep.

Didn't we recruit Mamu? If so, what team would he have joined? A lot of our near misses recently have done very well. Curbelo, Lecque, French, etc.
We were actually one of first few colleges to get involved with him, but for whatever reason did not sustain interest as I recall.
Might have had something to do with Mamu playing at Montverde for Kevin Boyle who is a Seton Hall grad and has a good relationship with Willard along with him having a brother who lives in Jersey.

Mamu I think is going to be a matchup nightmare for us. I hope he does not make the difference in the outcome. Go Johnnies!

He’s the leading scorer in the big East. He’s good but not nearly unstoppable. He’s smart and can pass and is very disciplined. He doesn’t do a lot of things though, like drive the ball, he’s more of a stretch player as well. Just gotta plan. I also think we need to put more pressure from the tip.

Today - Sandro Mamukelashvili has been ejected.

They ejected Mamu for a "head butt" after he got pushed by Wagner.
About as soft of an ejection as you'll ever see.

Depth is helpful in the event of injury, illness and foul trouble. If CMA tries to shuttle to many players in and out to keep the legs fresh for the pressure D, it's going to hurt us on the offensive end. Especially since there's such a huge drop off in production from our top 5. That's why Dunn's return is so huge. He gives us another offensive weapon(and intense D) off the bench, and he can play either back court position.

If he was ejected doesn't he miss next game?

He worked the Villanova game the next week and then no other St. John's games the rest of the year. Somehow they still let him work the NCAA Championship game that year. I will never forgive him for his lying after that game and how Val Ackerman and Stu Jackson condoned it and did everything they could to make it go away. A shameful example of people in power treating their customers like dirt.
The perfect example of doing everything in your power to try to tell everyone what you just saw is not what actually happened. If they simply had said we screwed up we might still be frustrated but it’s just part of life and s*it happens. Instead they outright lied about it. To this day I have zero respect for the ref, Ackerman and Stu Jackson. They are all dishonest people.
Totally agree with both of you. It's not the blown call, it's the lying and cowardice. Choosing to tell us the obvious didn't occur was offensive. I lost all respect for Val and Stu; and of course for Mike Stephens who is a notoriously bad referee.

Stepping over the opposing player was bush league. I don't blame the kid for giving Mamu a shove.

He did a little of everything against Penn State (or maybe a lot considering he dropped 30 on them) including some tough nice drives.

Wagner is lousy but SH big came out of his funk in time for us lol

Final: Seton Hall 78, Wagner 45
Is Ike Obiagu (20 points, 7 blocks) awakening? If so, look out.

Rock fight type game seems likely. We have some weapons offensively, but stating the obvious, SJU must defend considerably better. Team is not in sync yet like most in Virus times, but looking forward to BE play. Important to at least go 2-2 in first set of League games, grabbing this one would be great start and confidence builder.
