I think this team will handle Pitt easily.  They will be juiced playing at the Garden and will not overlook Pitt.  So we should be heading to Seton Hall playing some good basketball.

We will then find out where we stand as a basketball team.  Beat Seton Hall and the expectations for this team will be through the roof.  Lose at Seton Hall and we will still have may questions about this team.

Pitt made a valiant second half comeback attempt, but ultimately fell short, 56-52.

He's not a world beater, but John Hughley is 6'9 240" and averaging 16 pts / 8 reb.

Who's going to be the body on him so he doesn't pound us under the basket ?

I would go with Maher and if not, then Monte.

Given SH will be on the road, will be too determinative of where the team stands or what questions may remain.  A win over Pitt would bring the team to exactly where most of had had expected they would be, with OOC losses only to Kansas and Indiana.  I think what hurts most about these losses is that they played their hearts out against Indiana after losing Mathis for the game on a questionable call, and came back against KU in the first 30 minutes.

I love how CMA uses his bench and playing time in general as a meritocracy of sorts. You get what you earn. Based on that, it will be interesting to see who gets the playing time at SHU and who rounds out the bottom of the pecking order. Right now it is looking to be a race to the bottom between Nyiwe, Coburn and Soriano. Those guys are going to have to impress in practice this week and then go out and do it on the floor on Saturday if they hope to get their number called for any length of time on the road at S. Hall.

You earn minutes in practice. Good call. Fans are often critical of dnp but we have no idea of what is going on apart from strategy to influence playing time.

Yes, there has been an ongoing audition for minutes during the nonconference season and everyone has had a chance to make their case. Now that the conference season is upon us, serious business is underway and play time is over. The coaches are choosing who to go to war with based on a body of work that the whole team can see and it is based almost solely on production. No player can say they didn't have a shot and if they aren't satisfied with their minutes/usage and want to find out who is the blame they only need to look at the man in the mirror or at least go back and look at the game tape. This is the most fair way to do it and it creates team cohesion and holds players accountable.

I think the coaches are going to give the bulk of the minutes against Pittsburg to the guys that are going to be in the top nine of the rotation going forward. This will likely change at several points during the season but for the most part will remain static. The guys at the back end of the rotation, Soriano, Coburn and Nyiwe, will have this week of practice and the Pitt game to make a final push for minutes as we start conference play. The minutes distribution at Seton Hall will be very revealing.

Pitt is very bad. No one could have known that the entire team would transfer out in the offseason when this game as scheduled years ago.

This should be a fairly stress free win and all I'm looking for is to keep the turnovers down, rebound the damn ball and win by 15+. Establish full confidence heading into the Prudential Center on 12/20.

we only had 3 returning players, so we're kind of in the same boat; but 2 of our players could be first or second all BE conference players.

SorianoNywieStanley, our new super center.  Mike's going to whip up some mojo and combine the three of them into the center we've all been waiting for!/media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

We just need to play at our usual fast pace and his fat body will be dragging and sagging with hands on his hips and tongue hanging out at every dead ball after the 10 minute mark of the first half.

Pitt seems to be a bit of the gang that couldn't shoot straight - 41% from the field 28% from three and 64% from the line; also have more turnovers per game than assists. I do remember being sort of impressed with their senior guard Jamarius Burton when he was with Wichita State a couple of years ago but his numbers this year are not great.

DPOY and Freshman of the Year and the leading scorer in the entire conference were 2 of the 3 that came back...not even remotely comparable situations
