FYI ESPN matchup predictor giving us 81% chance of victory. I'd put it at 55%.
that high?

SJU should win plain and simple. Can’t blow another opportunity at home. They should beat a GT team with better size, but very turnover, mistake prone when pressured. No excuses, put this one in win column or deal with a much steeper hill to dancing.

Agree. 4-4 vs. 3-5 a big swing game, especially at home and with the conference wide open after Nova/Marq. At 4-4 you have clear path to 6-4 over final 10 and respectable 10-8 conf record or better. At 3-5 there would be almost zero margin for error and might require a 7-3 close to dance. Challenging task to begin with later in a long season, let alone relying primarily on 5 guys. Don't want to get any further behind the pace.

I think our margin for error is already gone at 3-4. DePaul was one we were counting on at home. Seton Hall is rebuilding and we lost to them. Remember, we have that insane roadtrip ahead where it really wouldn't be shocking to go 0-3 vs. Marq, Creighton, and Duke all away. 3 extremely tough places to play and will be rocking.

We have G'Town, PC, Butler, Nova, SH, Xavier at home left. Have to basically go 5-1 at home only affording Nova loss and have to find a way to steal 1 of the 3 away vs. Creighton/Marq/Duke if we don't want to sweat on selection Sunday. And we have to beat DePaul away.

We can 100% do it, but I'm just concerned having to go on any kind of run with one of the most wildly inconsistent teams in the nation.

We are a game behind the marker, no doubt about it. 2-2 was going to be a challenge with a brutal first 4 and it was a win to get to that, but the next 3 had to be 2-1 with DePaul being the obvious discrepancy as you note. But they are a good team this year, playing everyone tough including @Marq last night, and we need to be ready for a critical late season game at their place in March.

That all said I don't think the margin for error is gone yet and the opportunity to get back to neutral is right there the next 2 games pre Duke. 5-4 with 2 sweeps for and none against would put us in strong position for second half of conference slate.

No shame to lose on road to Butler recently, but falling behind by 22 was jolting to me considering this is a talented, veteran team. Lack of consistency bit us in rear, but hope this talented, seasoned group realizes it is time to beat GT & get a road win at Creighton.

Heading into subsequent Duke & Marquette games with those two wins in hand would give me confidence we can get on a run, get to semis at least in BE Tourney & dance. It would be a shame to squander this opportunity.

Sweep opportunities are huge in this league. We have three league opportunities to sweep in a row with Georgetown, Creighton, Marquette. Win all three and we are sitting very nicely.

We have to play a better / tighter game, not allowing deep lapses in executing either on offense or defense, that enable opponents to claw back into games, and we have to make layups and FTs and handle the ball better.
Ponds, being healthy, and a wake-up call to 'team cohesion' are necessary in my view for this to occur.
IF it does, no reason we cannot win the next 3 BEC games as well as 'shock' Duke, down to the buzzer at the least.
Or we can lose by 20, any given night. It's up to the team to turn it around.
Our starting 5 is that good, but that level of play has been visible in spurts and very inconsistent.

Have we lost by 20 yet?

Hope our fans show up (yes all you guys) and rock the Garden.

Looking at the big east standings today , if Vill and Marq continue their dominance and the remaining eight beat each other brains out it is very possible the third place team will finish at 500 with nine league wins.
I don't think there has ever been a more balanced league from three to nine which will make a winning streak of two an achievement and although unlikely could end up,with only Vill and Marq at 500 or better. Third place finisher could be 8 and 10.How would the NCAA handle bids if that was the situation? Would a team finishing under 500 get a bid?

Conferences don't earn bids, teams do. We will have anywhere from 2-6 teams dance. I think the most likely outcome is we get 4 bids. Next most likely is 5, then 3, then 6, then 2.

The last several years there have been multiple 8-10 major conference teams with good OOC that have made the Tournament. We would've been one of those teams last year, had we won 8 conference games.

As for the Big East this year, really the only team I'd be confident in making the Tournament with 8 BE wins would be Marquette. St. John's I think could POSSIBLY make the Tournament at 8-10, but that'd likely require a BET win or two. Butler, Creighton, and Seton Hall are pretty much in the same boat.

Really, St. John's, Butler, Creighton and Seton Hall all need to shoot for at least 9 BE wins. A couple of them will achieve it and dance.

I can't remember a team getting into the Big Dance with a losing record in their Conference and I bet a .500 Conference record hasn't been done too often (if at all) either. Of course, I'm not counting the automatic qualifiers.

WE NEED TO WIN GAMES and get above .500

Well, just because you don't remember doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Just last year Syracuse, Arizona St, Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma made it at 8-10. Possibly others as well. Out of the Big East, Butler made it at 9-9.

So yeah, 8-10 is not rare. 9-9 is extremely common and not worth listing all the teams that made it.

Guessing the 9-9 teams were teams with higher profiles than ours.

Without doing a lot of work to research, I am going to say that it's more common than not for major conference teams to make the Tournament at 9-9, as long as they had a solid OOC. I'd absolutely consider our OOC solid. VCU has a great chance to be a Q1 win, and then we have several Q2 wins. Also, having zero bad losses is extremely important. A lot of Tournament teams won't be able to say that (regarding their OOC). Nova for instance lost to a couple mid majors.

Last year the NCAAs had 5 teams make it at 8-10 (not 9-9). That includes Arizona St out of the awful Pac 12 and Alabama out of an SEC that is no better than the Big East this year. That's not even looking at 9-9 teams. I am very confident we'd make it at 9-9. Very.

We aren't getting in at 8-10 with our IOC schedule, I'd even 9-9 we won't.
10-8 is possible, just rather get to 11-7.

I never said we were getting in at 8-10. I am just pointing out that 9-9 (or worse) Tournament teams are pretty common.

There have also been some 7-11 teams. Conference standings are irrelevant as far as the committee is concerned. What matters is the entire resume, NET, etc.
