Agree, but honestly it may be the best thing for us with Heron’s ankle injury. A good chunk off to prepare, prep and heal I think probably does us well, albeit a lull for the fans.

I thought this was an interesting snapshot from a post on the Butler board on how our styles really contrast:

“the highest number of possessions in a Butler game was 68 (ULM) and the number of possessions has ranged from 57 (Missouri) to 68. The lowest number of possessions in a St. John's game has been 70 (Arizona and Brown) and they have had as many as 83 possessions twice (their first two games of the season). That is, our fastest game has been slower than their slowest game.”

That’s going to be the problem defending open 3s they shoot well from that range
I heard I think it was former coach Greenberg said Butler could be in
the final 4

Without trying to state the obvious, this really is a significant game on the schedule. Not only can it set the tone as the first conference game of the year, but the fact that the team will then go on the road for two tough games (X, Gtown) makes it even more crucial to pick pick up a win here.

No doubt that the team will be well prepared, but also need a very strong showing by the fan base!! Let’s go!!!

With all the optimism for the game tmw, nobody seems to be considering the effect that Heron at less than 100 percent, assuming he plays, will have. Yes, we beat Albany and Arizona without him, but there is no doubt that with our talent set, we need him to be very good to beat upper echelon teams most nights.

Hoping Heron can play at least 15 mins spread across the game.
He's just returned to practice. I don't expect CMA to let Heron push that ankle for a full game.

The Xavier game is Jan 5 and Heron will be needed.

Has anyone heard anything on Heron. I know it was said that he’s practicing. He’s had a lot of time , who’s to say he won’t be 100%?

It appears that Butler may be the best team in the BE. Let's see how we stack up against the best in the conference and evaluate our prospects from there.

St. John's coach Mike Anderson tells me Mustapha Heron will be a gameday decision. Is progressing, is practicing, but on a limited basis. "Obviously, he's not 100 percent, we know that." #sjubb

Agree, which is why we have a lot to gain IF we can win here. We are in league play now so no longer playing with house money like the OOC schedule. It’s nice to have this matchup at CA early though, as it gives us a solid chance in a good environment. I like and respect Butler as a program so they really don’t bother me all that much. That said, I’m not conceding anything to them at this point. We have beaten good teams thus far this season and it’s a huge test but that’s why we are all excited to get it going. I think we will be prepared and not easily handled but the deliberate Butler offense like we have at times in the past. They’re legitimately good so it should be a fun one.

St. John's opens as a 5.5-point underdog at home v Butler

Thought 2-2.5

May also reflect Heron playing limited time and fact Butler has been so solid on road.

Love this guy so far, but always think he's going to call us St. James U. Like he did at his hiring press conf !!!

My family and I are jacked up for the game tomorrow. Pre game dinner at Umbertos in New Hyde Park and then plan to get there early for shootarounds.

Im getting there early too. Might hit up the campus store b4 the game and buy myself something.

But perhaps he is not a jumper whereas Roberts is,so with position and speed he could mak up the diff Think if he gets him one on one he can drive on him Think we need to go to the rim offen

I grew up like 3 blocks from Umbertos. I’m in New Hampshire now without any good pizza nonetheless great Italian for the most part. I miss that place.
