Prayers for a St. John's Student

NY Post reporting arrest in the case:http://nypost.com/2016/09/06/police-question-suspect-in-connection-with-jouvert-slaying/

However satisfying that might sound, it'll never bring her back. What a callous waste of a beautiful life, a beautiful young woman.

I didn't hear about this story until this morning. My prayers are with her family.

I also didn't hear about the stabbing of a student until now in reading the last so pages of this thread. My prayers to the student for a speedy recovery.

About fifteen years ago, a NYPD detective who was assigned to work the West Indian Day Parade, told me they were told not to intervene if there was gunfire, as long as the weapons were aimed in the air and not at other people. This policy was in effect to avoid setting off a riot. I can only imagine what the current rules of engagement are under the present mayor.

If the evidence is strong enough, he'll be offered a plea deal and accept and likely be out in his early 30s. Free to roam the streets and possibly take the life of another promising young person. This is the way our criminal justice system works. It's damn pathetic and those same people who are most vocal about policing policies(IE stop and frisk), and criminal justice reform, are the ones who are most impacted by this. Can't have it both ways people. One other thought: This happens every single year at this event. Why is this event allowed to continue? Rest assured if it were the St. Patrick's Day Parade or Puerto Rican Day Parade, and people were being murdered every year, the event would be cancelled.

Shooters family says he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Yeah the wrong place is on the face of the earth.

Wrong place: J'ouvert event
Wrong time: 4:15AM

Not the poor girl's fault, lord knows I'm sure my kids have put themselves in some high risk situations, but nothing good could have come out of being in that place at that time.

Actually read your post quickly. Wrong place, wrong time was referring to the shooter, not the victim. I completely dismiss what any family member has to say about the accused. IE he was just turning his life around, he would never harm a flea, etc. It may all turn out to be true, but I ain't buying it coming out of a family member's mouth.

I believe I saw that is will be canceled due to violence year after year.

Nope the POS mayor said it will continue 'proudly'.

My brother has told me that this is literally the only event he would never want to have to work at. Said he'd rather freeze his ass off in Times Square on NYE than work five minutes at that parade.
