Potential Grad Transfers

Bellstrom beat me to this guy but he has long been one of my favorites too. Some of you, particularly Otis may know that he is from Scotia-Glenville High. What some of you may not know is that he committed early to Albany and blew up his senior season to the point where there was interest from one BE school which has been very competitive in the new league. He honored his commitment to the Danes and had a great career. If anyone has earned the chance to step up and play at a higher level and done so "the right way" it's Joe. Here are the numbers for those interestedhttp://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3918721/joe-cremo

If the staff ever get off their ass to see JG3 they could stop and see Cremo too, but don’t plan on it.

Paultz first of all I can tell you that the BE school that tried to get Joe to re-think his initial commitment to Albany was not Seton Hall. Also as you know with all the emphasis on the need for front court help I think an extra guard would really help them. To me Joe would start with Shamorie and Simon, provide outstanding shooting, rebounding from a wing position and another guard with good size. Plus his presence would in my opinion do much to ease the transitions of Dixon, a transfer playing in his first season at St. John's and Boubacar Diakite by allowing him to play primarily as a PF in his first season, take advantage of his energy and potential quickness mismatches against power forwards, and assume decision making responsibilities more gradually. By the time he's a sophomore in 2020 he and Dixon would be much better prepared for leading roles, especially if they have tourney experience.

Here's a guy who can make an immediate impact and we wouldn't have to compete with Kentucky or Kansas to get him. He shot 46% from three and 82% from the stripe.

We are at a crossroads right now. Mullin's coaching legacy will be cemented next year. The staff should be working like dogs to make something happen. I am not saying we have to go after Joe Cremo, but we should be feverishly pursuing guys like him. #GettingRestless

Praying we get into the mix for this guy! Sounds like a great fit for us.

I thought Mitch and Mullin were on top of this! Is this west coast laid back coaches Déjà vu?

Perfectly stated. There is no shame to getting outplayed, but there is no excuse for getting outworked. Maybe there is all kinds of work going on behind the scenes I am not aware of, but reading this board and other sources, I have the feeling we are getting outworked recruiting wise. Extremely discouraging.

Arrrgh!!! To paraphrase NCJohnnie, there’s no excuse for getting outworked.

I would just love to know what it is about this place that inspires such lazy recruiting.

It's not like they are coaching at Pepperdine or Hawaii. The view from St. John's couldn't possibly be that distracting.

Excepting St. John’s, it looks like PlanetEarth is pursuing Joe Cremo. To semi-quote Bill Murray in Stripes: “There’s something seriously seriously wrong with us!”

Poor organizational structure, no one to hold our head coaches accountable, by design AD position filled by eunuchs only. This just for starters.

The one thing in common, IMO, that is "inspiring" the lazy recruiting is the administration. Whether, through provoking (Jarvis), no one actually in place (Lavin), or placating (Mullin). I'm not saying those were or are the only reasons for lethargic recruiting with those coaches, but they certainly play a role.

Frankly, I never thought Jarvis really worked too hard recruiting outside of his 2000 recruiting class, and Dermon Player played a major role with that particular class more than anything. Lavin laxed during the last season (although, he still was able to initially garner a commitment from Brandon Sampson who was a top 50 player). Mullin is working less than Jarvis.

Norm and his staff worked hard, but they just couldn't land any top 50 kids, other than Justin Burrell. Fraschilla and crew busted their ass, but he too often went 'Norman Bates.'

Anyone heard of the saying, "S/he must've been beaten with an ugly stick?" Maybe, there's a "lazy stick" that's being put to use at St. John's.

Expect Old Dominion grad-transfer Trey Porter to be one of the more heavily pursued prospects this spring. Has heard from Indiana, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Georgetown, Murray State, Maryland, DePaul & handful of others since receiving release

Bama, your organizational structure comment can have multiple interpretations. You seem to focus on traditional internal structure, accountability, who's your boss. My interest is why and how we can maximize our assets to articulate with the basketball environment in a way that gets us the players we need. With two Hall of Famers we certainly have star power. Are they showing up in places where they make HS and AAU coaches look good in the eyes of their players and score recruiting points? Do we have a coach who takes over the show while the stars are away and keeps the team we have growing? Is there an internal and external support network in place to make both team development and player recruitment ready for "Always Be Closing" interventions. Before I became a retired bum I was hyper-vigilant about having to rebuild support systems every time I wanted to deliver product or close a deal.
