(POST GAME) Xavier (MSG), Mon. Feb. 17, 6:30pm, FS-1 / 970AM
Very tough defeat to stomach. SJU should have won this game.

Effort was there. So I just have to accept defeat.
Effort yes, smarts no. Just a bad rerun we were forced to watch again.

We just played such exciting ball down the stretch and when Rutherford had that breakaway dunk I really thought we had it. LJ had just no business taking those last two shots, one was worse than the other.
This is also not the first time Dunn missed FT’s in a big spot. He has to be more clutch but this loss is on Figueroa more than Dunn.
LJ, please leave after this year, why do we want him here next year, just to throw up stupid shot, and chuck up 30ft 3s? He's like Ponds, just chucking. I want all of Mullin's players gone next year.

I know that 5* center watched tonights game, did he ever play against Posh and Wusu? If so then he knows how good they are. Just lookig for a reason that he'd want to come here.

The last 5 minutes of this game had nothing to do with a talent disparity. Awful shot selection (primarily by 1 guy) and poor execution when they got the ball back with a chance to win.

Posts bashing LJ are ridiculous. I’d be thrilled if he came back next year!

Interesting: at the hiring press conference, CMA had Fig & Heron on the dais with him; he was so desperate to keep the 2 best players.......Hmmmmmmmm!!!??? How did that work out?
This team has lost so often, that they've gotten good at it. It's why I don't mind a mass exodus at the end of the year (within reason, obviously). Bringing the same crew bacj will just breed more losing, IMO.
I think we have a good core w Roberts,, Earlington, Champagne ,Dunn and Williams. All are improving and should be better next year. I would hate to see any of them leave.Tough loss .

That Freeman kid came out of nowhere. Made that easy basket, then blocked an important shot. He really caused St John's fits during the final 5 minutes.

Excellent player for a Freshman. He's going to be a major problem for all the BE teams for the next 3 years.
Free theows!!!! Both dunn and earlington missed front ends of a one and one down the stretch. Hit those and the game is over.

Very fun game to watch though. We are going to be a force in the big east soon. Its coming.
Yeah, but as always.
Next year. Sick of the next year thing.

WTF??

This one still hurts even 20 minutes later.

How Figueroa can look any of his teammates in the face after that game, I don’t know. You’re supposed to be a leader of this team and instead of deferring to the 3 or 4 guys who lead them to that point, he just starts selfishly chucking the ball from all spots of the court. It’s really inexcusable and it’s shocking. He’s regressed big time this season.

And the third kid at the dais never played a game for us.

Obviously a pet peeve of mine but we have no talent disparity. Defense and hustle are talents, we put up 70+ “talentless” points in 37 minutes and then a lack of talent takes over? I don’t buy it. Our “best player” shoots horrendously but then decides he is going to win the game on his own? We have talent, we just don’t know how to win.

It wasn't just shot selection. it was also the fact they went one for 13 down the stretch. Missing many easy shots in the paint. Yes there were poor decision and poor shots but if they make one of those layups, they win. They make the front end of a one and one and they win. Very frustrating to watch

NO, it's not ridiculous. He's been chucking those dumb shots up all year long and i'm sick of it.
You not me would be thrilled if he came back, I'd rather he just go.

Stop
Sorry, but knowing you're going to lose, despite being up by 5 with 90 seconds left, is indication of a problem. I wasen't just being pessimistic. I knew we were going to lose, in the same vain that I know it's going to be dark out at midnight. That's not just a personel issue (although that's part of it). It's a mentality and/or late game coaching issue, and it has to change. 1-6 in game decided by 5 points or less, this year, 0-5 in Big East games. That's a problem.

Team is offensively challenged. Figueroa would be a terrific third option.

On last offensive possession, Mike Anderson: ‘That’s a floater that LJ makes. Obviously we wanted to draw a foul but it should not have came down to that.’ #sjubb

We don’t have a guy at the end of games who can make shots with any reliability. It’s as simple as that. We miss Shamorie dearly. It’s a miracle we can even hang in these games. The kids are playing hard and are easy to root for. Would be a shame to lose any of these guys who played tonight.

absolutely ridiculous to say that “bringing the same crew back will just breed more losing”.

A lot of our players are young guys in their first year of playing high level D1 basketball. Roberts, Greg, and Earlington were used sparingly last year. Dunn comes from Cleveland st. Champ is a true frosh.

These guys are going to take their lumps and learn from it and get better. To say you don’t want them and basically call them losers who will never be winners is some reallll bullshit.

Don’t come around celebrating when this same core is a part of some great winning seasons in the near future...
