Very fair. Let me get your take on this. I don't know what Heron's expectation is, I believe he tested the draft waters last year, but I wonder if he was hoping this would be a showcase year for him like Ponds is getting here.
My take is this: It is there for him. The offense he is in now showcases his NBA potential better than anything else and presents him with a framework where he can develop as a player. He is not going to be a point guard in the NBA. For him to to showcase himself is not an either/or vs Ponds. He is in the pretty much exact role he'll be in, in the NBA. Off guard that needs to have some inside game and speed, strength and athleticism to guard larger players. He is not a spot up shooter and he won't get onto an NBA team in that way.

I also think that as the season progresses he will be increasingly important and will, barring injury be the leading scorer as often as not.
He has played very well on defense covering wings and bigs.He has been solid. He is adjusting to an offense that does not have many designed sets. This will change once BE play starts. He needs to play in this type of offense and expand his ability to shutoff the dribble if he is to play at the next level.

Evidently certain voters are not finding it hard to ignore 10-0...

Other then Furman which I mentioned earlier I can understand this to an extent. If we grab two more this week we may be able to move up a little more and then the Seton Hall game which should push us over the top. Even if we were to get ranked next week a loss to Seton Hall would knock us right out. It would be great to beat ranked Marquette team on New Years Day at home and go 14-0.

Your commitment to provoking other posters and trolling is impressive, but I did say that it is the point where it "becomes hard to ignore." The operative word there is becomes. Once you hit double-digits with no losses people start to take notice quickly--even with a schedule that is not exactly intimidating. Mark Berman is among a few new pollsters who admitted to taking a long look at St. John's for the 25th spot this week.

St. John's is 28th in the coaches poll 11 points shy of 26th and just 31 points shy of 25th.
I think both Heron and Marvin are spot up shooters. Their value is the 3 ball. Their high turnover level is caused when they
Try to take it to the hoop. Heron appears to be hunting his points. Let the game come to you, Mustapha.
Heron and Clark are not comparable players IMO. Clark is a guy who can shoot extremely well when set and drive on a reckless closeout. That's really it. Heron is as versatile as they come. He can score at any level and he can take it to the rim at any time--not just off a defensive mistake.

Heron has been a bit off lately, but I am so thrilled with what he has shown. He is our best defender anywhere on the court. He does a handful of things every single game that I haven't seen anyone do since the Postell teams.

My expectation is that Heron rises up in the conference portion and Figgy fades just a bit. Things are still settling with roles and chemistry. Figgy is MUCH more aggressive looking for the ball and shots than Heron at this point. Heron's two years of experience with top competition will show itself soon.

...somewhere
27 in the NET, 28 in the coaches poll, 29 in the AP. Missed on the prediction.
Guys, there is a reason Coach trusts & plays Trimble as his first or second guy off the bench. He plays (and gets back on) defense, doesn't turn the ball over and hits an occasional open three (understands his role). As long as he does those things, he will get minutes.
Although I think he has the talent do more, he plays because coach doesn’t have many options. He doesn’t turn it over because he doesn’t handle the ball. He is a one dimensional offensive player who only shoots 33% from 3. Admittedly he tries on defense.
Two observations through ten games;

LJ & Ponds are most cerebral SJU players out there & play so well together. They know the game so well & one would assume they have been together for a few seasons.

Most expected Ponds & Heron to form one of best backcourts in country. However, Heron seems out of sync a bit & to date not the offensive force expected.(although 15/game not shabby) Obviously early, but one does have to wonder if his role banging with bigger players out of necessity takes its toll on other end of court. No knock on a player I greatly value, just a random thought.
LJ is so efficient. Reminds me of Bootsy in that there is no wasted motion, no putting the ball on the floor unnecessarily. Just a smart BBall player.

I conceded too early. St. John's is ranked #21 in the Power 36.

Yeah that doesn't count.

YOu could publish your own list to justify your prophecy if you so like. ;)

Sorry, this type of list is exactly what I intended. I didn't say say they'd be ranked too 25 in the AP or coach's poll I said "somewhere." I intentionally left it broad. The Power 36 is not exactly a fan poll or a list I self published...c'mon.

Easily the best played game by SJU since the Rutgers demolition. In general, I thought Marvin Clark was outstanding tonight. He played a solid game on both offense and defense. Figueroa plays well almost every night. Williams even showed some Freshman flash off the bench as well. Good to see. Heron still struggling a bit but when he let the game come to him a bit he made some plays. Still looks a little frustrated. Shamorie was solid.
I even thought we played better closing out on shooters tonight. Still some work needed on "D" but their was effort. Hey 11-0. On to the next one before the Big East schedule begins. Excited to see us match up against more skilled teams. Go St. John's.
