I’m ok with Williams not playing because Trimble played well but hard to understand with Keita. My big problem with this team is the turn it on and off tendency. I think we have a better team but nova is definitely better at understanding how to win a big east basketball game. When you have multiple leaders who won a national championship, they are just better at focusing in on what needs to be done for 40.

The Georgetown game was a step in the right direction when it comes to winning close games, but we are still a major work in progress

I waited 4 years to have a little fun. I have no doubt that Simon will lose us whatever NCAA tournament game we are close in. He is completely tone deaf to his weaknesses and he is historically bad at the end of games. He freezes up every single time.

Not sure why all the hate for Simon. He missed the teardrop at the of the game but it’s a shot he usually hits. He shot three wide open threes and missed them all tonight. He’s a pooor shooter but is capable of knocking down an open three and actually did so at a pretty good clip last year. I can live with it.

Heron bothers me way more than Simon. He reminds me of Ahmed. He tries to bull his way into the lane and is a turnover machine. He was highly advertised and frankly I’ve been disappointed.

At the end of the day 2-2 given our first 4 games is fine. Tough part is we could easily have been 4-0, but could also easily have been 1-3. No disgrace to lose to defending champs at home, although way we lost was frustrating.

I don't understand the criticism of Simon. Yes, he badly missed that shot at the end. But guys, he was our best player (along with Trimble) in the second half. He had 13 points, 6 rebounds 9 assists and only 1 turnover. He was not the problem tonight. There were a couple of other starters who were pretty ineffective all game and Shamorie was gassed and ineffective towards the end. Would love to hear Coach explain why neither Williams nor Keita played in second half.

On to DePaul. Need to take that one and Creighton next Wednesday. We can also beat Butler on the road.
 
Two things stand out to me.
Ponds or Simon dribble 10 to 15 seconds before we get into the offense. We’re forced to jack up a poor shot as the clock runs out.
They beat us a number of times on fifty fifty balls and also got rebounds on foul shots when we had inside position
 
Two and 2 with our schedule is not a big deal if we win the next 4. If we don't, and have hiccups against Depaul or Butler, for instance, then going 2 and 2 early wont matter anyway. Got to win almost everything at home, and go 500 on the road. Then do OK in the Big East tournament to go dancing.

Heron played like crap, but at least he possesses the requisite skill to pull off whatever he attempts. Simon can only hit a layup if the defender lets him violently fade to his right to release it.

He can't shoot. He can't finish any drive of more than 1-2 dribbles without the aforementioned fade to his right. And he freezes up and alligator arms everything late. He air balled a freaking layup for 4 feet away!!!

He's always going to get the ball late because that is what defenses want.

We simply are not a good rebounding team. Also, we live and die by the three point shot.
 
From what I saw, SJU is the better team and will beat Nova next game(s) this year. Coach's advice to drive and kick was not followed and too many long shots were taken with no one in position to rebound. Surprised Kieta did not see more time in the 2nd half as the Trimble match up on Paschall was a tough one. I thought we would win and thought I would be more upset that we didn't because the team played OK in a tough road venue. With 3 of the next 4 at home, we win all 4.

I'm okay with Ponds doing that. But Simon?!!!!! He's literally the least skilled kid on the court unless Keita is playing. Why on Earth do we want him making decisions with 4 seconds left. He can't shoot or dribble!

340th on the offensive glass out of 351 teams. And I didn't see any big name programs in the next 11.

I actually think, for the most part, we played better tonight, then we did on Saturday. Maybe going 1-1 on this trip was justice, in the end.
 
Keita not playing in the second half puzzles me. I thought he did fine in his five minute stint in the first half (no fouls, an offensive rebound, and two points on one shot).

The bigger problem is why is he taking that shot? Why does he always take those shots? He is the least skilled kid we have. He plays with a national player of the year candidate. He missed two fts late in every close game. Why is he taking the ball to the basket?!!!'n why?

That has to be Ponds. I don't care if Simon is 15-15 and Ponds is 0-15. You don't live and die by a kid like Simon.

He was -11 in 5 minutes and looked like he never played before.

Why do you think we have a better team if they have better leadership and know how to play for 40? Ponds is playing in his third season as is Heron and Simon. Clark in his 4th. Those last three came from big time programs, yet Figueroa is arguably our most intelligent poised player. We are very experienced, more experienced than Nova, and my point is where is our on court leadership? When do we stop being a work in progress? The time is now.

12-6 in big east and we are dancing. Don’t need to do anything in big east tournament if we go 12-6. I’d probably say the same for 11-7 too

Let's not kid ourselves. Ponds was awful the last 3 minutes, and was lucky to get the foul call on the spin when he was clearly stripped. Simon fills up the stat sheets. Sure he acts sometimes like a fast, uncoordinated colt that doesn't know how run sometimes, but he is far from the reason for the 2 losses.
