(POST GAME) @Villanova, Sat., Jan. 29, 4:30p, FOX

If we hit all our FTs we lose 73-71.  Just saying.

Regarding the bad shooting, look no further than Wusu.  He has been abysmal.  Actually has become tough to watch.

Wusu Last 3 Games
4 -for-23 from the field
0-for-7 from three
8 Turnovers
6 Assists

Give his minutes to Smith and Stanley until he figures things out.

We outscored Nova 36-33 in the second half.

Boxscore  may show we won 2nd half but eyes say we didn't.   We were down by 19 with under 6 minutes left. Nova was in no threat to lose and clearly let up a bit in final few minutes.

I know we shot horribly from three, but most were not good looks.  We definitely took the shots that Villanova wanted us to take from three.  It is mire about shot selection or maybe more accurately how well they defended that had us shooting low percentage threes.

If Champagnie doesnt get a mentality to take over the game a la kimball walker we wont win anything and julian wont be a first round pick. No way he is ready for nba. He has to take over the game. They need to give him more looks and alexander needs to stop driving into "trees" where he gets stuffed and wu su needs to limit his 3 point attempts. And CMA needs to bark more at the refs

Our beloved St. John’s is 11 wins and 8 losses with 11 scheduled regular season games remaining.

Of the 11 remaining games St. John’s will play at least 8 games in which it will be the heavy underdog (in no order) Villanova, Yukon, Providence Xavier (2 times), Marquette, Butler (at Hinkle) and Creighton.

In all likelihood an invite to the NCAA is not happening.

I think the majority of us feel that the NCAA tournament no longer is a realistic goal. I feel that way but I will still keep dreaming at least until after the Providence game Tuesday night. What really frustrates me is that we always seem to be on the losing end of close games. The three that stand out this season are at Indiana, at UCONN and at MSG against Pitt. We win two of those 3 and we have either another 2 Quad 1 wins or a Quad 1 win and no bad losses. When you are  a team with marginal NCAA tournament hopes you have to capitalize on these opportunities.

Of course it’s disappointing to lose this game. But this is no different than losing to Kansas. Feel like everyone was understanding that its Kansas and a loss to  them was not surprising. Villanova is at the same level as Kansas as a program, no shame losing to them at their place. Focus on the next game and hope Posh is healthy.

Thought they looked pretty good for about 10 minutes

Big difference is that they took uncontested outside shots because of superior ball movement while we took way too many contested shots and many times early in shot clock

Not sure what is going to get Champagnie out of this funk. He has made many of these shots (contested or otherwise) in the past. His confidence appears shot as he seems to be avoiding shots/deferring.

I like Wusu and recognize he is still just a soph, but his drives to the basket and settling for long set shots have to be reined in. Last season, as a sub, he surprised teams. This year, as one of the focal points, he isn’t. With that said, I still think he can be a very good contributor. Unfortunately, he is playing with the mind set that we need Champagnie to play with.

I want to continue to see the bench integrated into the game plan - but not necessarily as a wholesale 2nd unit shift.

It’s all about beating Providence now.

Think we hear the same thing for 3 yrs coach by now you  should have fixed it. Try bringing in players who can shoot there out there.
Every other BE team found them.

So when is going to be "No shame in losing to St John's"?   My guess is never.  The program is high mid major at best.   It will always be.  We should look in the mirror and realize the Big East is too rich for our blood.  It would be more enjoyable if we were in a conference we can dominate.

Disappointing performance after a nice start. Just hope Posh is OK. PC game a must win, but let's face it we are going nowhere unless Posh & Champ finish the season strong. Hoping for the best but ....
I dont think missing Posh means much.  Will let us get smith and coburn out there more for some shooting.

One of your all time worst posts, Duke

Ugh, I hate these posts!  I promise it would not be more enjoyable if we were a mid-major.  Please stop it

When can we run some actual sets on offense?  You know it's bad when even the TV Analyst, Marshall, noted multiple times that we didn't run anything on offense.

Maybe it's a Seinfeld set, a set about nothing.

As much as I would like to see more of Smith and Coburn (vs. Wusu, for sure), this is a ridiculous post.  To think that missing Posh doesn't mean much is crazy.

Imagine if he had the mentality of Kemba Walker, he'd be awesome!
