(POST-GAME) Villanova (MSG), Sun., Feb. 17, 5p, FS-1 / 570 AM
You could feel the excitement at the Garden way before the game started .So many of the fans were wearing St Johns paraphanalia , people were lined up to purchase hats and shirts from the vendors .The most impressive thing to me was that after the game when we were on 29th street we could still hear noise from the fans leaving the game .Things are on the uptick ( Al Mc Guire ).
After the meetup, my friend and I went to a few bars to watch...after the win we went to go to Stout since that's just the place to be after a SJ win. Passing by the Garden right after the W, we saw a bunch of SJ fans who were at the meetup before and everyone started jumping up and down and cheering in front of the Garden. We really do run NY when we are legitimate.

Our fanbase is so starved to win big games and make tournaments...many fans of the Nova/Xavier type don't realize how lucky they are. We just want our time in the sun!

Any predictions on attendance for Seton Hall?

Just for reference, the attendance last year was 18,840/19,812. That was after our wins vs Duke and Villanova, but of course we also weren't making the Dance.

I think this will be another sell out.

It's an 8pm game so I think it's going to be tough to have a huge crowd because I dont know if you will have a lot of parents taking their kids. guess we will have a pretty good idea by thursday night

Missere was a walk on but he could certainly play. I know he played a lot because our team lost a number of players after the incident but he hustled and was a factor on the boards. Always appreciated his contributions to the program.
And still looks like he could hook up with undergrads. Good for him.

Last year for this game and I believe this year it is first responders night. Free tickets for first responders if call ticket office. That was the cause of crowd last year and hopefully high number Saturday.

I am all for it!

We might need some first responders if we keep winning and the pessimists start choking on crow.

Does anyone have any feedback/info on the recruits that attended Sunday night's game?

FYI,

The reason for the late start, is because the Rangers play the Devils at 1 pm. So, it's a NY/NJ day at the Garden.

Nothing earth shattering, I noticed a few positive comments on Johnnies Pride Twitter account from several, the usual.

BTW, I had Phi'ls dad in high school. Great kid and a good basketball player.

Fox lost rights to UFC. They have been showing more 8pm Saturday night games as well since they no longer have UFC.

Ticketmaster had very few good seats when I looked. Last night the only seats available were the 300’s. I checked today and 6 sections in the 300’s are sold out. I noticed that the 400’s are being sold which I believe ther weren’t before.

I bought my tickets on stub hub which had a lot of seats available for re-sale.

After this game, can we please stop the MSG vs CA debate? If people don't want to play all 9 conference games at MSG then I can understand that, but moving more/all games to CA would be a disastrous move for our program.

Imagine if Sunday's game, the best Johnnies game in arguably decades, was played at CA.

First the question is would we have won? Who knows, but we beat Nova at MSG despite being 4 point underdogs. For the sake of argument, let's say we would've pulled off the upset at CA too.

Now, picture all the press we got on social media, the nightly news, ESPN, etc... but instead of MSG the backdrop was CA. How would Simon's 3/4th court shot have looked at CA? Mid major. We would've looked like UPenn when they beat Nova earlier this year, rather than a team on the brink of something major.

Imagine a crowd of 5,602 in what looks like a high school gym rather than 19,812 in the best arena on Earth. Over 14,000 people would not have experienced it first hand... and oh yeah, you can be certain a recruit or two wouldn't have either.

Somewhere out there may be an alternate reality where Villanova didn't dominate college basketball during this six year stretch. Where the Big East Tournament lost its luster/attendees after realignment, and the ACC/Big Ten stole MSG from us. Where a struggling St. John's decided to give up on MSG in hopes of having slightly better odds winning a few more games each year. I can guarantee that reality would be far worse than ours, not only in the short term but also long term.

MSG is a gift to St. John's and the Big East, so let's embrace it since MSG has embraced us with their recent BET contract extension. Let's sell out again vs Seton Hall this weekend. Let's sell out the Big East Tournament and further solidify what's ours. Cragg fortunately has this vision and is already working on bettering our OOC MSG schedule for next year. MSG is amazing and I can't wait to see more moments like Sunday's in the near future.

Not gonna quote that post just cause it’s long Adam but the difference between our performances at CA and MSG this year was a completely valid point that was made. until we finally won against nova

Even without analyzing how we have played this year at MSG, there was warranted pushback on the idea that all of our conference games would be played at MSG. I don’t care what side of the spectrum you land on in this issue, but there is concrete data that backs up the idea that playing at CA is a great advantage for us that shouldn’t be ignored.

No one here suggested we stop playing at MSG. But we shouldn’t stop playing games at CA either, conference games included.

So no, I don’t think the debate should be ended just because we had a comeback win this weekend. I don’t want Cragg to do what he’s planning on doing and I’m not gonna change my mind even if we win our remaining games at MSG and run the table in the BET.

My opinion is we should play all weekend games at MSG will draw good numbers regardless if winning. I still think we should keep two conferences game at CA. These games would be when the Big east forces us to play 830-9pm during the week. That is a tough draw at MSG.

Ultimately we need to win, keep momentum. Believe it has been proven when we win we draw well. That is the most important thing that needs to be recognized. IF we play all MSG games for conference we better be winning or could be a disaster.

I totally understand everyone wanting to play all or most MSG games. However, this is a much easier statement when you are WINNING. NY is win and they will come kinda town. On many nights the Garden was empty and dead when the team struggled. So many nights you could hear the squeaking sneakers on the floor. When this happens it doesn't help at all. At least a few thousand at Carnesecca gives some semblance of an atmosphere when times are not so good.

I guess my point is, be careful. Their is a realistic balance of games that should be played at MSG. How that gets figured is the trick. By the way, if I remember correctly, the MSG suits were not as in love with SJU when we were down and their was even talk of breaking that relationship. At least now we have some solid footing again in that regard.
