That might have been the worst defensive game I’ve ever seen a CMA team play.
That scrimmage in which the rookies won against the returnees may not have been a fluke.
It wasn’t. Entire returning team gave us 15 points today. That’s less than Figs alone would have given us.

We lucked out as Posh looked like he gave up on the play after the double team. Take the win and get better tomorrow.

The returnees has to play better as been mentioned by a couple posters in the game thread. As I stated in the game thread, the returnees had 15 points combined and Williams--albeit solid from the line--didn't make one shot from the field.

Where was McGriff? I figured he would've gotten a lil burn in tonight's game.

We need Champagnie to be a stud this year to pair with Cole or we will be in trouble in conference play. Williams was shooting very well to end the season last year. What happened??

My fellow South Carolinian. Thank you! LOL

That's what happens when you don't get much time to practice and have a team full of newcomers, it's going to be a learn as you go season, not only for the Johnnies but for other teams as well. This season due to covid is going to be absolutely crazy and unpredictable. There will be some teams with no practice for 2 weeks after a positive test going into a game. There's already been a few upsets tonight.

This just happened.

This was as ugly as it gets. We deserved to lose but didn’t.

If this team doesn’t commit to playing some interior defense we are going to get hammered against bigger teams. Even the last play Posh whiffed and the kid missed the slide by and they had a second opportunity on the tip. Way to easy.

Are we suppose to be happy beating a MAAC team by 1 at home now? I don’t know. I don’t feel good about this game at all.

He had a 4 game stretch where he shot well. That shouldn't erase the 25 other games that he didn't shoot well. Same with Earlington. Some fans got too attached to that limited stretch.

Right now we are the equivalent of a decent mid major team. Same as St Pete's. Of course it's one game and we didn't have Champ. We'll get better, but so will most teams. Think we found some good things tonight: Cole, Posh and Moore (offense) to name 3. Not sure why CMA played Wusu so much. Thought Earl should have been in for last 5 minutes of game. Of newcomers, wasn't impressed with Toro. Very early, but we did about what I expected; pulled out a win against an evenly matched team.

He was never considered a good shooter, although he shot it well down the stretch last season. I will say about two or three of shots looked good but rattled out.

He's already, IMO, somewhat passive, so I hope his misses tonight doesn't make him hesitant.

It became pick your poison at one point in the second half. They came back by getting inside too easily, and when we packed it in to stop that, they hurt us from 3-point range. We never really did get that balance.

Statistical oddity:

St. Peter's 6-12 FT
St. John's 18-21 FT

Now, you could say that won the game for us, but when we got to those numbers, it was 75-71 St. Peter's. Would have been devastating to have lost with that big of a FT disparity.

As an aside, I don't remember anyone having a better SJU debut then Cole had tonight. Maybe some of the older fans on here would know, but I can't think of one.

Avery Patterson hit 7 3's in his debut if I recall.
