Wheeler was super tonight and best player, but several times Mathis, who has struggled most of season, banged some timely threes to stop the SH run when game was in reach. Clutch! Good for him
A number of “No, No…..Yes! Moments for Mathis

Tonight's game was akin to Seton Hall poking a hornet's nest on Saturday.  They felt they'd gotten away with it until they walked past that nest again and casually brushed up against it and eventually was stung.  That was fun to watch!

I mentioned it in the game thread and I'll say it again here....  Posh Alexander might be the best 6'0" and under guard in the nation.  He's unrelenting.

Hopefully, tonight's win light a fire under their asses and we start cooking with fish grease.  I'm proud of our group tonight.  Even sweeter it was against the Hall ON THEIR court.

Do not think we can count on long range shooting from Mathis or sustained production from Coburn, but what we should be able to count on is what won the game tonight - pressure defense, effort on the boards, sharing the ball - and hopefully more offensive production from Julian.

Excellent job by the coaching staff keeping the team together and having them not only ready to play but playing that well in that atmosphere in that spot in the season.

Hope the aggression and confidence continues - if it does it may turn out that in the immortal words of Denny Green, they are who we thought they were.

Posh so tough, smart and unselfish…he looked to feed Julian at end knowing that we need him to get out of this funk he is in…

FWIW, during post game radio interview with Brandon Tierney, TJ Cleveland acknowledged that Julian is pressing, is settling for too many jumpers and needs to find other ways to score (and believes he will).

This was the best game that we have played this season. As Raftery said, this is the St John's team that people expected to see this season.

The question is why haven't we played with this level of intensity and purpose all season long?  Can we continue to play this way for the rest of the season?

Wheeler was awesome tonight. I only wish we had him for another season. Mathis, often maligned this season, also played well. I also liked the contributions that Stanley, Coburn and Nywiae made.

I couldn't have imagined that we could possibly score 84 points in a game with Champ only going 2-10 from the floor. We really need to get him going again.

Great win. Great job by the kids and staff to turn it around after such a disappointing loss only two days ago.

I'll finally sleep well tonight!!!

The BE season is really just just 10 home/away series.   Splitting with Seton Hall the hard way closes out one mini season and at this point keeps the rest alive.   After Villanova, 3 very winnable games and suddenly our outlook doesn't look horrible.

Still a lot of work to do, but amazing how quickly our loyal fans had this team dead and buried.   Quite possibly another dangerous CMA team.

Wheeler can come back next season if he wants. He gets the extra COVID year.

The one thing I haven’t seen mentioned yet is obviously Julian had an off night shooting and has slumped a bit lately. But…8 boards, 5 assists (a couple of really pretty give-and-gos too) and a few blocks, including that monster one he pinned against the backboard so give him credit for filling up the scoresheet despite his shooting woes.

And…credit the team for picking him up when it’s been Champ who usually picks them up.

Great game.  I'm starting to love watching Wheeler play.  His practice is finally translating to the game and it's a thing of beauty to watch, he's clicking on all cylinders offensively and defensively.

Good news is, despite the slow start in conference play, still a lot of basketball left to play.  They have at least 14 games remaining (assuming Marq game gets rescheduled and at least 1 game in BE tournament).  That includes 9 opportunities against teams projected in the field and 6 of those 9 games are Q1 opportunities.  If they can beat the bad teams like Butler, DePaul, and Georgetown and win 4 of the 9 games against tournament projected teams, that should get them in.  That's a tall task but if they play like they did tonight, it's possible.

Game was reminiscent of the old Monday night Big East game of the week and with the game at Walsh and with two old time announcers in Dave Sims and Bill Raftery had an old time feel to it. Thoroughly enjoyable nostalgic evening watching this game.

If Wheeler has the option of playing at SJU next season because of the complicated COVID decisions he becomes the staffs chance to sign a level 4 player.

The recent criticism of CMA has been warranted, but he deserves some props for tonight.  We had reached a point in the season where kids could have become disenchanted, selfish and folded.  It didn't go that way and Mike did shake things up a a bit.

I also thought CMA managed Wheeler's playing time perfectly, especially after he picked up his 3rd foul early in the second half.  He also had to give Wheeler some rest which he did with about 14 minutes left.  This gave him a few minutes of rest leading into the under-12 media timeout.   Mike also called a timeout in between that stretch which further extended that much needed rest.  This was smart because we were clearly feeding off of Wheeler's energy.

We finally get to see what a 10-man rotation can do with a ton of on the ball pressure. Great team win! This should be the formula for the rest of the season.

Defense is a team game, so much more than offense.   You can't put the kind of pressure that end to end defense can provide unless everyone is busting it.

Tonight we had 12 steals, 3 each for posh, Champ, mathis.

We outrebounded hall 49-43. Wheeler 10, soriano and Champ 8, posh 7

We caused 20 turnovers.

11 blocks, soriano and Champ 3 each.

You might say Champ had a bad night.  I'd say he didn't allow a bad night shooting from putting in a great night defensively.

Wow….I remember those games. Believe they had a coed 2 on 2 tournament at half time of those games. I recall Maryann Cluess and Pete Scelfo representing SJ.
