Allowing a ton of dribble penetration, improving on ball D a must
That will improve when we get Dunn back. He’s a very good on ball defender. Not having him hurt tonight and I also think we best BYU if Dunn plays. His energy and on ball defense are key

16 points
5 Reb 1 Asst

He is beginning to contribute again. He still needs to clean up his FG. He shouldn't be missing that many.

Team
FG 47.1% that's not acceptable for BE team.
3-pt 27.8% ouch
What % do you think teams shoot from the field?
Seton Hall shot FG 53.1% 3-pt 30.4% against Penn State. Final 98-92. They'll be better later in the season. Hopefully the Johnnie's will be better too.
Do you believe Seton Hall will shoot such percentage all year? Obviously, you're a novice of the game if you're complaining about 47% shooting from the field.

Mike Anderson said he went to his bench lineup for an extended period to get a spark

A spark?? REALLY?????
That was the worst 3 minutes and 49 seconds we have played this season to date
Maybe he meant a spark to light a fire and burn it all down.

Practice effort a big plus to most HCs. Keep working Josh!
What he meant to say was, " Im done with Toro!"
Toro sealed his fate when he did a reverse spin away from the basket when he had a wide open lane and allowed the defender to get back in position. It sucks to because from all reports he's been great at practice, but just hasn't translated in the game.

Isn't he a grad transfer? If not now, when? (I realize I'm asking a lot of questions).
Stars of the night:

Cole- found his stroke from 3 again at just the right time.

Duke of Earlington- hes back baby!!!!! He plays better inside out. Once he gets a few garbage buckets, he extends out and starts hitting jays. When he starts out gunning from deep, that is no good.

mcgriff- again real solid minutes. nothing spectacular but hes a spark for us out there when posh needs a blow.

Wusu- a couple nice drives and layups when we really needed points.
Let's give it another game or two before we declare that Earlington is officially back. His point totals so far this year are 4, 4, 6, 14, 4, & 16.

He played well tonight....and a big reason for that is he didn't become shot happy and take dumb shots. We need him to know and understand his role. When he does that, he will have success, as we saw tonight.

A few observations.
1. If Moore was brought here in part to be a rim protector, I'm not seeing it. More minutes for Roberts? Not surprised that CMA wants that.

2. Cole is the epitome of a rhythm shooter. He has been feast or famine. He finds ways to score, but is not explosive going to the rim. The polar opposite of the wings we usually have. After countless years having the Dom Pointer type of explosive athlete but limited offensively, I like having the type of shooter that can get hot and win games.

3. Team needs Posh and Williams playing a lot of minutes, especially against the Big East.

4. I don't know how a team with a 12 to 1 offensive rebounding advantage could be losing at halftime.

5. Have to find a solution to giving up open threes so often. The double teaming of post players that aren't a danger to score is like the Jet defense on the safety blitz. If you don't get the sack, I mean steal, you may get beat on the long ball.
6. Stony Brook's backup center Sayles is listed at 6'9. He had a minimum of 2 inches on Champ. Good thing is that Champ plays like he is 6'9.

Stop playing dumb, you know the answer to both questions ;)

Yikes.....we have a lot of work to do.

Not that this is anything new, but we struggle to get good shots on the perimeter because we have absolutely nothing going on in the paint.

Watching Rider shoot wide opens threes was painful.

I ain't playin.

Too drained to read previous posts -- will get to them tomorrow -- but for me the most important thing tonight was that Cole had an excellent game, a confidence-building game that bodes well for him ... and for us as we go forward.

Not sure what staff saw in Toro, sorry to say. He is a MAAC level player and may not even start at Iona, SP, Rider. I would take that Rider kid 6'10 230 lb with real offensive skill and some semblance of what his role is. It really is hilarious how many solid skilled bigs there are out there with true size and they end up at Rider but not here.

He gave a team a spark - RIDER!!!

I don’t agree with the all 5 bench guys at once approach but we were up 15-11 when it started and tied 18-18 when it ended. Far from devastating and ourr poor play actually began earlier than that, and then the subs didn’t help.

However you could say our guys have been fresher the last 4 minutes of the games and been able to climb back to win. Maybe that’s being fresher? Don’t mind the deep bench I would just prefer it’s not all 5 bench guys at once.

What you see there is superior talent winning out finally, not fresh legs IMO. I think depth is extremely overrated except for emergency situations e.g. injuries, foul outs, etc. Almost every game we matchup with a team with no depth, we talk about how we will tire them out and seemingly never do. In fact, some teams with 6 players have handled us even with an extra 3-4 players at our disposal.

Took an ill-advised three late in the game that hit the side of the backboard. Champ bailed him out with the rebound and score.
Was open and was 7-7 before that shot. I didn’t start the possession asking for an ME 3 but I don’t think I’d call it ill-advised either.
He was shooting under 40 % coming in
He can’t miss every shot
He made a couple jumpers today but all of his shots outside of 15 feet are I’ll advised
And he shot 46% his first two years, which one you buying?

I think his first 3 may have saved the game.

I knew from the handful of JUCO games I witnessed of Moore that he wasn't exactly a rim protector. I learned years ago that height doesn't automatically make one a legit or true shot blocker. Let's say that fits Moore like a glove. Unfortunately, his overall defense is sort of porous at this juncture.

As far as Cole.... This is why it's rather amusing when some folks are so quick to write off players. I suspect Cole will have a few more games like tonight as the season progresses.

Rider only turned the ball over thirteen times and that means very few easy layups, SJU will have to get that number up to twenty vs Seton Hall to win that game.
