Amase, I am embarrassed to say that I completely misused that word. I was thinking of it as a tonic for stress but looked it up afterwards and saw it is more associated with hackneyed expressions or perhaps a sedative. Chalk it up to a combination of being tired of watching less than stellar Johnnie basketball and the first signs of senility lol.

You people clearly all failed your SATs

A player is never as bad as his worst game, never as good as his best game.

But what wheeler showed yesterday I am confident that he is capable of doing vs any team in this league without it being a fluke.

Door is wide open for serious minutes.

I’m still not sold on him.  He seems too content on being a perimeter player and doesn’t have terrific perimeter skills. Nor is that what we need him for.  He’s long and athletic and will continue to play significant minutes, but I suspect he will not consistently be a big impact player.  Hope I’m wrong.

I had just stated a day earlier that he seems to have a 3-5 point ceiling. Based on his career stats, it seems correct.

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised and hoping it wasn’t a fluke.

I agree Wheeler proved he can help the team and hope he continues to be active close to the basket.  That said, he needs to clean things up a bit.  Unfortunately, he has also shown a propensity for the bonehead play or pass.

If a guy has 10 worst games though, that's usually who he is. Hoping Wheeler scores 10 next game, but I think it'll be 3 or less. That said, he at least has the ability to contribute in other ways. Some of our guys seem to be no-trick ponies who occasionally luck into being a one-trick one.

Let’s all hope that Wheeler finally understands what is expected from him going forward and continues to play as he did yesterday. If that will be the case , my fingers are crossed, we can be a much better team both offensively and defensively and he too will be much happier with the increased pt he will get.

Yep LJSA, I look at what Wheeler has done in almost 3 1/2 of high D1 ball, and I call yesterday's game an outlier. But I guess that's just silly ole  me being my usual cynical self.

Wheeler is not going to be a double digit scorer, that was an outlier. But I have seen from day 1 that he has Big East level talent and if he plays to his strengths (athletic, can defend well at head of the press, rebound and hit the open corner three) will be a contributor from here on. Hope he doesn't prove me wrong, but I am a fan and rooting for him.

We do not have the talent of most of the teams in the big East so it’s up  to the coach and staff to see that they over achieve. To date this has not happened

Good assessment. Honestly I would take him over any of the guys who left, but I wouldn't expect double digit scoring, just solid role play and showing he belongs on the court.

Wheeler played ok on Saturday . If the standard is playing better than he has earlier in the year , he did better .  He came here because he wasn’t going to play much at Purdue . And , Painter , as good a Coach as anybody wasn’t able to get more from him than what he’s shown playing for Anderson .  So , that’s his level . He doesn’t seem to want to mix it up under the Boads, otherwise he could have tried to slow down Watson on Saturday .  He didn’t .    I think we could have used Earlington a lot more this year .  The Duke , though undersized by BE Standards never backed off from the inside work and can score more than Wheeler but , that was last years team .    Just my opinion but , I think it’s pretty clear the outgoing group was better than the incoming . Hey , they went 10-9 last year . It’s doubtful we will have that record in March .

Team has talent its just everyone is new besides Julian, Posh, and Wusu. It shows because those 3 have been the best  players so far this year. We lost by 10 to a ranked PC team on the road not really the end of the world. I know excuses excuses but its also the truth. The good thing about our conference is if you get hot there’s always a chance to get a bid. Champagnie should have been BE POY last year and Alexander was ROY and DPOY so how bad has the recruiting been really? Guys need to take a breath and relax a little.

NCJohnnie, I dug up this old post. We were both right and in a small group that saw this early. Easily though, he has greatly exceeded the medium bar we set for him. I'm not quite sure how high the bar should be, but he rightfully has to be very pleased with his season thus far. We all are.
