(POST-GAME) Marquette, Tues. Jan. 1, 7pm, FS1 / 970AM

I am retiring at the end of this week. My thanks to the team for a great retirement present!
Ah, you’re just saying that now after this fabulous and dominating win! If God forbid, they had stumbled, you would’ve delayed that retirement, right?!?
Lol.
Congrats Ray, enjoy your golden years that coincided with St. John’s back in the national basketball conversation!
You wouldn't believe how many people told me it's foolish to retire. The line I hear most is" "Won't you be bored?" Nothing could have been more boring than work. Now I won't have an excuse not to watch our guys live in the dance.

How do you watch that game and this is your takeaway. We just did a great job on one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

And Markus Howard has been the talk of the college basketball world the last few weeks. 2-15 and maybe got 3 clean looks all night
Defense was solid. Moved our feet and had quick hands. The defense continues to improve and our level of stupid fouls overall has greatly decreased as the season has progressed.
Agree completely with ever post except llzion’s.
Keita gave us 9 minutes which allowed Clark, Simon, Ponds etc to rest a bit which was key. Less fatigue less reaching, less silly fouls by the team against one of the strongest offensive teams in the conference. Keita’s 9 minutes don’t show a lot in the box score but they were huge for the team. Hopefully he will continue to improve.
Keita looked very mobile and he had 2 blocks.

The good thing is we just beat a ranked Marquette team by 20 and should still be undefeated, and I still don’t think we’ve played our A or A+ game yet
Moved up 10 spots on kenpom to #41
Hahaha This game almost broke that entire metric. It penalized us too much for last year and didn't credit us enough for neutral court wins in Brooklyn.

Loved the intensity pretty much from start to finish. Very nice win. Now they need to keep it going against the hated Hoyas in DC. They got this. Feel like the team is really starting to work together. Long time coming.

I believe we only had one turnover in the second half, when Ponds accidentally had his foot on the line in front of our bench. To me, that and the defense on Howard were the two biggest differences in this game.

Really enjoy the improvement in the shooting by Clark. When he is able to stretch the D we become a very scary team driving to the basket. He now has started to drive to the basket as they close out strongly on hm, Was also impressed with the play be Heron when he reversed pivoted on the right side of the court, exploded to the right, with a right handed dribble and dunked. Very impressive from a left handed player. he was solid tonight.

We beat a ranked team by more than 10 pts, doesn't that help with that new rating metric?

Trust me Ray, you won't look back. I retired in mid 2017 after many years of a 24/7 type job where I was never really unplugged. Some of my colleagues said how will you fill up the time? No problem - haven't miss it at all. Of course, I didn't join redmen.com until I retired!

What a great win by a gritty and resilient bunch of guys
They got off the deck after the SH debacle and kicked Marquette's arses
They are fun to watch and easy to root for
They make mistakes but they play hard and with passion and exuberance
Love Johnny Mac's high five court side in the second half
Let's keep it rolling against the Hated Hoyas
WE ARE........................ ST JOHN'S!!!!

Thought Heron and Clark played really well. You could see Heron’s confidence grow as the game went on. We also team rebounded very well and only 1 or 2 turnovers in the sp2nd half. Great job!

Sorry to disagree with you but this was an A game. No team is going to beat Marquette without an A game. I usually anticipate one or two of our players will not play to their ability but tonight all 5 starters scored in double figures and non fouled out which could have been a factor considering what a liability our bench is offensively.

Just got home what an answer to the Seton Hall game that was!! Team could not have played better, terrific game by Clark , great second half by Heron just huge huge win. Carnesecca was rocking tonight like I haven’t heard it in a long time let’s keep it up take care of Georgetown on Saturday and there is no way the experts can keep us out of the polls any longer!

Marquette is not nearly as good as you think they are. We were much too athletic for them and exposed them all night with our quickness.

We still had a poor first half turning the ball over like crazy. Once we are able to put two halfs together, watch out.

Also 72, you’ve been taking digs at Clark for weeks in your posts, how’d it feel watching him light up the incredible golden eagles

Clark is having a super senior year - we couldn't ask for more on the court and a great kid to boot!

Hell of a game!!!!

I had no idea how they'd respond to the Hall game. So glad they were able to not just win, but completely dominate!! :)

Marillac this is super off topic but do you happen to have a link to that video you made back during the Lavin era where it was like Hitler in some movie and you put in custom captions to make it apply to the program? I don’t why I was just thinking about that but that video was gold

It's probably just semantics but I tend to agree with Jack on this. Keita only played 9 minutes and Simon is still transitioning to the post. We also didn't hit the offensive glass close to our ability and gave up some easy baskets for as well as we played on defense.

Maybe it is close to our A game now but our A game in February could be a lot better. Marquette is also capable of better play than they showed and I expect it to be different when we play then in Wisconsin.

Special shout out to Keita who not only played valuable minutes but shamed Lower SEC 9 to get off their asses at the end of the first half (1:52) to stand and cheer. Kinda sad...in a high energy game they just sat.
