(POST-GAME) Marquette, Tues. Jan. 1, 7pm, FS1 / 970AM

When they beat the hated Hoyas on the road this weekend your retirement gift will be that much sweeter. Congrats to you Ray.

Congrats & good for you Ray! You will have plenty of time to hyper focus on the best Johnnie team in years.
How many minutes did Keita play and how did he look?
9 minutes, 2 quick fouls, and 2 blocks. He had no other stats. He showed no obvious signs of being hobbled other than the knee brace.

That's all we need from him. Anything more is gravy and makes us very difficult to beat.
good win, Defense needs to be better!
How do you watch that game and this is your takeaway. We just did a great job on one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

And Markus Howard has been the talk of the college basketball world the last few weeks. 2-15 and maybe got 3 clean looks all night

First time seeing Marquette this year, and probably not the best game to judge, but I wasn't impressed. They all can shoot and great size and can rebound, but they are SLOW outside of Howard and don't have many players who can handle.

Best line of the night from @yelbeeez on Twitter:

After 14 Straight Wins to start the season, #SJUBB moves to 13-1.

Defense was solid. Moved our feet and had quick hands. The defense continues to improve and our level of stupid fouls overall has greatly decreased as the season has progressed.

The most satisfying win on campus in years!
Credit to the staff for getting our guys ready and focused throughout the game.  Only concern was our bench scoring only 2 points.  Incredible that with Marquette going deep into their bench they still didn't make a run in the 2nd half.  I'll be happy with a split with Marquette.
Shamorie looked like he was limping while exiting the arena.  Hope he is ok.

By virtue of the fact that we never let Howard get going, the Marquette offense never got going. Having Keita available helped us with depth and size. Nice to have him back. Great job by the kids on both ends of the court. And great statement W!

Ah, you’re just saying that now after this fabulous and dominating win! If God forbid, they had stumbled, you would’ve delayed that retirement, right?!?
Lol.
Congrats Ray, enjoy your golden years that coincided with St. John’s back in the national basketball conversation!

It can never all be good

Congrats on the retirement Ray. Hopefully they take care of business in DC and get ranked for you.

Agree completely with ever post except llzion’s.
Keita gave us 9 minutes which allowed Clark, Simon, Ponds etc to rest a bit which was key. Less fatigue less reaching, less silly fouls by the team against one of the strongest offensive teams in the conference. Keita’s 9 minutes don’t show a lot in the box score but they were huge for the team. Hopefully he will continue to improve.
Sorry but I like Shamorie the scorer who does assist his teammates better than Shamorie looking to be the facilitator and a secondary scoring option.
Great game by one of the greatest guards to ever play at SJU. A signature win over a top 20 team when it was desperately needed.
It’s almost as though Shamorie decides before the game whether he’s gonna play the role of playmaker or the role of scorer. Like you, I much prefer scorer first. Usually that results in the D focusing on him(IE doubleteams) which opens up playmaking options for him anyways.
Moved up 10 spots on kenpom to #41
Truly believe this team, when on all cylinders, is woefully under-rated.
Tonight, we saw what just a little bench could do.
They won’t be under-rated much longer if they keep this up!
Of course, Ponds was on fire, but all of our core guys contributed and I luv this kid, Williams.
Unlike the BE conference, this team just made its own statement. And it was assertive and decisive.
Yeah, but still pissed for the SHU game.
I want the team pissed when they play every game this year, see how they played tonight while pissed?
Make another statement @ G-Town with a 15pnt win: "B.E. you won't deny us ever again."
Take this entire season personal.

Thank you for this beatdown tonight. You guys were great.
