(POST-GAME) @Marquette, Tues. Feb. 5, 8pm, FS1 / 570AM

Nice 2-1 road record vs these 3 teams. Creighton and Marquette such tough home courts. Nice job guys
Holy crap!!! What a game and what a response. This game might have broke the KenPom algorithm!

Fourth Quad 1 win!

Bowling Green won again too.
What do you have to say about Simon?

Go easy on Gene guys, the refs really were taking this from us and in addition we were running out of gas. Didn't look like we'd pull it out but we somehow held on. These are the games we won in OOC but haven't in conference play. Can't lose a game like this up big most of the game. Huge to give us 2 signature wins and sets up homestand. We are all brothers dying for this team to win...no sense in coming down on anyone for doubting it when things aren't going well. Welcome back to .500!

Great Win! Ponds made the plays at the end, but there were many heroes tonight!

Even Clark, playing probably his worst game ever, grabbed the big rebound at the end. IMO, it was smart to miss the second one on purpose (which he clearly did). Not going to let a good offensive team like Marquette set something up. Even if he made the first, I would have done that.

Simon went the full 40 tonight, and may have played his best game in an SJU uniform. Way to respond to all the criticism he's gotten over the past week!

LJ just has a nose for the ball. He may not get every loose ball, but he's never outworked for one.

Williams and Keita did what was needed, off the bench.

Now, let's rock the house at MSG on Saturday!

Hardest I have seen our guys play all season. Played it like a championship was on the line. So glad they got rewarded for it.
Swept Creighton & M’Q with legitimate chance for two others. Beating ranked, hot team a tonic for dance invitation. Well done, now on to my cardiologist.
Cannot lose under any circumstance to Providence on Saturday. Need to follow this up with win on Saturday.

In all honesty, I’m enjoying the hell out of this but if Trimble is out for any period of time and guys like Clark play the way they did and guys like Simon (besides the big clutch O-board) disappear down the stretch, any kind of a sustained post-season run will be tough to attain.

Good for the team. Ponds owns Howard. Let’s get a streak going!

The refs tried to take it from us but our kids fought like hell! This team has their flaws but they never give up the fight! They deserve this, so happy for them!!
That’s funny, didn’t we lose?
I’m a defensive pessimist Guinness. That’s my personality, plan for the worst hope for the best. They really roughed it out tonight.

I would if he didn’t do it every game. It used to be cute, but now it’s just infuriating. Like I need to read this shit while I’m in the middle of watching us blow a 15-Point lead.

I know the guy seems like a nice guy, it’s why I hold back, often, but it definitely makes posting/reading the game thread nauseating.

Ponds got fouled three times on one possession in the second half, while Marquette was making their run, and nothing was called. Of course, being Ponds, he still made a layup on that trip.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. I just wish you’d wait until it’s actually over to declare the game over.

WTF, how you can possibly say anything negative about the game Simon played tonight?? Best game he has played this year, he didn't disappear down the stretch, he got us to the stretch and then Shamorie took over, not to mention he was shadowing Howard down the stretch. My God our fans are tough to please.

I posted all game about him and in the Simon thread. He was awesome. He’s a stretch 4 in college and when he plays like one we are very tough to beat.

So many great plays tonight but for me the little things that figgy did were the highlight. Guy never takes a mental break. He’s always checked in and making plays.

Mustapha quiet tonight but made some plays when he needed and played in control.

Simon best game of the season, though if he fouled Hauser on last shot I would have lost it.

Clark was a no show tonight. He has to get his fouling under control it ruins his game with so much time on the bench.

Good minutes from Sedee tonight. He has gotten better every game, which is unheard of for a SJU big man.

Williams minutes were decent. Trimble could have gotten a little more burn tonight.

Shamorie is Shamorie. Gonna do some things that royally piss you off, but still put up 30 points. Huge clutch free throws and made some huge shots. Nice bounce back from Duke.
Down the stretch we saw who the BE Player of the Year is.
8 league games left including some key marquee games (2 MUBB vs VUBB games, SJUBB vs VUBB, SJUBB vs SHUBB, etc) that will decide this. But Ponds at worst pulled even tonight.

I do think the overall team performance will be taken into account in other words if Marquette stays ahead of SJU in the standings and challenges Villanova all the way to the end that will help Howard. Now if Ponds goes nuts here and SJU say gets to 11 wins then I think unless Howard goes nuts I think Ponds is likely to win it. But SJU needs to go on a nice run, win 6 out of 8 to close season.

And who isn’t!

He means well and the frustration was understandable. I'm sure he wants the team to win just as badly as anyone else. If anyone is being honest, the game was far from "never in doubt" at the end. I know I'll take heat for sticking my neck out also with a negative reputation, but is it really productive eating our own after a huge top 10 win on our way home? Guys we just got 2/3 from this roadtrip. We are back on track now because of it. Let's keep it going and take advantage of home court.
