(POST-GAME) @Indiana, Wed., Nov. 17, 9p, FS-1

Understand what has been said of the foul being a 2 but truth is it should never come down the 1 play.even if by chance it does can’t get upset about it since we cold have won the game with that play, but I really like Pinzon but I think it was he who missed 2 free throws bear the end which  could would have given us the win . I really feel we did not lose anything by this game if anything we gained

Pinzon played well for a freshman. He was an important part of the comeback. That’s why the coach left him there. He did what he was told to do and that’s was to give it to Champ for the three. It wasn’t easy to get Champ the ball under the circumstances but he did. He’s a very good backup pg because of his height, and ability to  bring the ball up and not afraid to shoot the three.

On one hand you want to give Champ the ball at the end of the game, but if he’s  triple teamed need a contingency plan..
An on other note, not sure if it means anything, they passed the eye test against Indiana.

People want to say great comeback, and it was, but you can't go down 16 then you have to spend so much energy just to comeback and tie the game.

You can't go down so many points in the first place.

By the same token, we were grinding them down, hauling them in and if* the half was 22 minutes instead of 20, we would have won.

That's an intimidating place to play and I give our boys credit for battling the crowd.

I had the sound down but I think there was some home cooking with some of the calls. JMHO.

Home cooking? They were making them gourmet meals.

Something about being in that moment. It seems that the player who “wanted” the ball got it. IMO Posh didn’t really want the ball. Pinzon has cajones.

Dude the SOS is a non issue if we beat Kansas  and enter BE play at 10-1... on a neutral court NO WAY we lose to Indiana & i unquestionably believe this team can "UPSET" them on basically our third HOME court in USB arena. Have a feeling we will be playing a LOT more games there in the future.... ESPECIALLY if we can RUN the Jayhawks out of the Arena... and let's say the opposite happens & another Indiana-type loss happens in the last seconds... this year reminds me off Coach(lol) Jarvis & how we lost back to back nights to Purdue and Stanford by a bucket early in the '88-'89 season.... the rest on their games were cupcake city and they went to Big East 10-2.... that team finished 14-4 in the Big East and 28-9 overall & one play away from the Final 4... Posh = Barkley, Champagnie = Artest, Mathis = Gray, Coburn/Smith have to bomb away from 3 and make most of them just like = Bootsy Thornton... Grant = Wheeler, Pinzon = Charles, etc, etc.... I only think that loss will STRENGTHEN this team  & I think Kansas will be SHOCKED inside the UBS.... either way the Big East is going to be the 2nd best league in the country this year... we will have PLENTY of chances to win the games we need to win to get the tourney..... this loss just made this team come closer together & more determined than ever.

If Pinzon stays four years especially if Posh leaves(which I doubt imo he comes back for one more year) he will play point to the day he graduates. The kid is a natural & he is still SO young… if he improves his three point shot which he already shoots well in rhythm he will have a GREAT career at SJU…. that kid is a future PRO - either NBA or Euro-league… and im sure a staple for Spains Olympic team…. Love this kid.

Pinzon is Puerto Rican American ,he can play only for Puerto Rico or the USA Olympic Team. I recalled when in 2004 Olympic little PR schooled  the USA bb team  92 to 73.Tim Duncan, Carmelo Anthony (who could have played for PR)and other NBA stars were embarrassed by a team.with maybe one caliber NBA player.

apropos of someone's comment above in this thread, Posh leaving after this sophomore season?

If Julian didn't leave after his sophomore season, what makes us think Posh will??

I can't say if Posh will or won't stay, either to turn professional or transfer, but Champ is recognized as a bonafide NBA prospect and was likely no better than a mid 2nd round pick in the previous NBA draft.   He has stayed to improve his draft position into the first round.    At Posh's height, the competition increases dramatically for the NBA in sheer number alone.

Nearly every single D1 player, even walk-ons, can play professionally somewhere in the world.   While Posh had an outstanding freshman year, he has a long way to go to being considered an NBA level talent.   He may very well get there, but not a concern at this point.

A narrow loss by 2 points on the road against a team just outside the top 25 preseason isn’t gonna hurt us much, but won’t help us if we are on the bubble. maybe we can make a run vs Kansas.  Hard to say, but can’t lament it any longer as it’s really not a bad loss. We can’t be having first halves like that in the future though, against good teams.  Let’s continue to win and maybe we give Kansas a game.

I saw the game as a definite positive. SJU was an underdog. That game will be the toughest setting they will play in all year. It was like playing in front of three CAs with more noise. This also influenced some calls which hurt but the team settled down and with a roster of many changes looked like a well knit group and didn’t let the pressure get to them.
They were also playing a team that was not succeptable to the press so they were forced to play a half court offensive game which has been pretty bad the last few years and they looked fine.
Better days are coming.

Bottom line is a loss, but right before the bottom line is the fact that if Champ got a good look and nailed a 3, we'd be giddy as hell at a great comeback win with accolades everywhere.   We just have work to do, and a good team exposed that.
